For everybody asking questions on ThemeForest Templates compatibility with Joomla 3.0, here is your answer:

Joomla 3.0 is NOT a LONG TERM SUPPORT release. Please check the press release and acknowledge. Most of the 3rd party developers are not going to jump right over and rewrite huge extensions like Virtuemart, JomSocial, K2, etc.

Just check the Joomla 3.x ready popular extension and you will understand what I mean.

I invite here other template developers on Themeforest to state their opinion. Clients are also welcome to read and post their opinion.

I also want to know the other Joomla! developers opinion on it. Because I am also confused. But sure about that the day when K2 is released for 3.x version may be that same day I will jump on to 3.x version. Because I love k2 a lot. :)

Working with the Joomla! cms for almost 6 years, I would generally agree to hold off Joomla 3.0 until it gets to 3.5 because there will still be things with 3.0 to fix and iron out any glitches here and there. There is also the issue of third party extension developers have not caught up and many are going to be very late in launching a 3.0 version for compatibility.

People will get very upset when they discover their installed extensions are not working. I’d give it at least a few months.

I just saw the Joomla! 3. I really like it. I find it very promising.
But as GJThemes said we have to wait for 3.5 ;-)

Absolutely :) I have been seeing a lot of complaints though with regards to the admin structure and design, I’m one to agree. However, talking to a friend of mine, and some bits of info from other sources, it almost appears there are possible issues and they need the extra time to figure out what to do with 3.0. I’m really not a big fan of the total focus of responsiveness with the admin nor am I with the deep integration of Bootstrap, but I guess time will tell.

There’s also the deep rooted problems of lack of documentation and they are not keeping pace with the constant versions of Joomla being pumped out. Then of course the extensions….there are so many extensions not ready for 3.0, it can be quite frustrating for many users and I think we are still far away from extension developers moving on 3.0 versions any time soon.

We still have Joomla 2.5 for a couple more years as the official version and this boy doesn’t plan to change from it :)

This is what I know reading the Developer Network website of Joomla (link here).

Joomla creates Alpha versions before release a production version. Like Joomla 1.6 and 1.7, those versions was released to be tested by developers, after important bugs was fixed the version 2.5 was released to be used in production sites.

Is very clear how the Joomla! Developer Network point about Joomla! 3.0 Alpha-2 Released
(1) Joomla 3.0 is not suitable for production sites. It is for testing only.

In my own opinion, some developers release templates and extensions for Joomla 3 because the people likes the latest versions of the software (no matter if is an Alpha or Stable version); I guess the people loves big numbers. A customer that use Joomla may think is better a “3.0.2” than a “2.5”. I strongly know that a “2.5 Stable” is better than a “3.0.2 Alpha”.

Congrats for the topic Danny :) The last few weeks I was thinking should I include Joomla 3.x version in my items as many of the Joomla author do.

I really do not like Short Term Support releases like Joomla 1.6, 1.7 and 3.x and that’s why I decided to continue releasing only Joomla 2.5 items. Also, we are the developers of our items and we are responsible to keep our customers satisfied so I do not want to release a product for a buggy version. Also, you have mentioned it above, many of the 3rd party extensions are still not ready for Joomla 3.x.

As a conclusion, I will continue develop my items for Joomla 2.5 only and when Joomla 3.5 is release I will update all my items so they will be Joomla 3.5 ready :)
