Hi,

Today I found a person who put my projects link on other website with his referral username and earn money. When I go to that person profile on VH he doesn’t have any project on sale. But he has 200 – 499 referred users. That means he has earned lots of money.

1 Question: Is this legal?
2 Question: Why VH staff don’t delete like those accounts?

Thanks,
3Ddym

1. I think that it is legal. 2. Why would they? That guy reffered a lot of other members, and maybe helped to sell some of your items. In my opinion that is not so bad.

EDIT: In some way, they are like marketing managers. They help to sell the product and they get percentage of doing that.

Yes mate. It is legal. And I think that’s a good something. Because he is advertising your works. There are lots of guys doing this refferal cut job. If someone buy your project with his ref, you project will be sold.. Why are you sad for this? :)

Yeah, if he’s referred 499 users by directing them to your projects, then it’s quite possible that he’s been responsible for over 90% of your sales! That’s got to be worth a bit of referral money?!

Why would this be illegal? You get your share, Envato gets it’s share and a guy get’s just 30% of the first sale…

Of course it’s legal, there are uncountable websites linking to Envato items.
In my point of view it’s good for both parties. The linking person earns with referrals and we earn from their promotion. This can be seen not only on websites but also on Youtube.

Best regards! :)

Here we go again, haha… Of course it’s legal – that is the PURPOSE of the affiliate program.

What is so hard to understand about referrals? FREE advertising for your items, and you’re upset? To me, that’s quite strange.

It certainly isn’t ILLEGAL. As the only winners are likely to be envato ( who get the sale no matter there the referral comes from). Because of this, I should think there’d be little impetus for envato to change it.

Is it MORAL? Using someone’s best selling items to create your own referral commission? Hell no ! But as long as you’re getting the sales, who cares ?

But good or bad, where there’s a market there’ll be commercial activity. Comes with the territory in afraid!
