Yes, it’s kinda funny, but for them it’s kinda part of life. I think it was back in early ‘90. Where we were then? Lots of them get stock in jail for setting churches to fire, etc. But some have gone very well, and earn huge money, such as Dimmu Borgir.

Immortal are still around as well, I saw them at Wacken open air in 2007. It was great! Total chaos. 
Dimmu Borgir is too well produced to be pure black metal. 
Good music though.
