I feel that it’s time to up the level of quality on this site. We’ve been open for two solid months and have amassed upwards of 85,000 members. That’s truly incredible!

Now that we’ve been open for a couple months now, I’ll be instructing the reviewers to be much more strict when it comes to “quality”. We’ve been somewhat lax up until now.

It is my hope that, in doing this, our site will become much more profitable for Envato, and our authors.

It’ll definitely be tougher to get in. But, who doesn’t love a challenge? :)

@twoaz1(from the original Quality control thread) – I think that sometimes a person needs to be called out to the floor when they deserve to be. I think there are probably other themes out there that I could have used as an example if i started this thread, but those maybe were based on my opinion. However, the one clarklab provided goes against any design principles whatsoever, and I’m not sure you could get anyone to agree it should be a premium theme. So, without being rude or flamey, I think that template is very poorly designed, and shouldn’t have been accepted, therefore, we have this thread, and now the post from Jefferey saying that quality control will be happening.

as far as crushing someone’s spirit for creating new designs, I think that something like this would do the exact opposite, and instead motivate someone to so something better and gain praise from the community at large. i think sometimes people think other people are to fragile to take a semi-harsh beating or an embarrassing, honest review. people are tougher than that.

Thanks Jeffrey and zachlebar. Moved over :)

We really see great things happening here so despite a few rejections we continue to fight “the good fight” (our fight to be successful at what we love to do). Frankly we have learned a great deal from the successes and not so successful templates around as well as our own tries.

Rejection can be tough but we are improving with every attempt. The higher standards here may well mean more rejection in our future but hey, maybe not. The cool thing is we’re learning and putting together a higher quality package each time.

If the customer isn’t happy with their purchase, legitimate complaints don’t bode well for Theme Forest or the author.

Keep on keeping on! It’s worth it!

With sweat glands in overdrive, :o Chris

I’ll be the first to admit that my Colorized template is subpar. I probably should delete it. Bad design, overall quality compared to my others.

Thats ok, it is before the competition and in early stage. But you may notice that I am more strict on reviewing WordPress Themes and Joomla!

The best thing is to let the user see your effort on the design and functions. Also show your effort in documentation to reviewers :)

@zachlebar That is expressly against Envato policy, see Cyan’s comment on Front page files may put off first time visitors

We’re an open, friendly community of creatives here and to single out individuals is unfair and just plain bad manners.

@JeffreyWay is right to tighten up quality control for the overall community but an individuals file quality is a matter for the author and the reviewer to sort out.

Great. Some themes that get accepted right now (or, before this week) were kind of sub-standard in my opinion – and they probably haven’t sold anything yet. It’ll be good with some more quality control.
