.rar files keep the folder structure so if i have a gallery that has an images folder, a thumbs folder and the fla, if i put it in a rar file the folders stay intact but if i put it in a zip file the folders are removed and only the files put into an archive.
I will continue to use rar files as will many others, go get winrar its free for evaluation purposes

oh my!
[...] if i put it in a zip file the folders are removed and only the files put into an archive. That’s not true. ZIP is entirely non-destructive and will keep your structure and files intact.
I will continue to use rar files as will many others,RAR is a proprietary format and thus shouldn’t be used on any file meant to be read by others.
go get winrar its free for evaluation purposesBetter yet – get 7-Zip – free as in beer and as in speech. It supports all the useful formats (including RAR ) and is very fast and very small.
I think the file structures only get messed up with .zip files if you use WinZip to unzip them. I don’t really understand why any Windows user has WinZip since the OS can open .zip files naively now. You can also create .zip files with Windows by right-clicking on a folder or files and selecting “Send To—> .Zip file”

Sorry to say but, that is not realy true becouse the folders do stay intact with .zip.
(All you have to do is zip the main folder that the items are in.)
Based on my experience I see that most Europeans use .rar and most americans use .zip

I use zip. I love it comes standard in Leopard. In XP I don’t remember if it was, but it is on Vista (which sucks big time).
