a website is pretty cheap, just buy one. with a couple of sales from your item you get back the money invested.

You do need a lot of bandwidth though, especially when your theme is still at the homepage and if your theme uses a lot of pictures.

Why would anyone buy a website theme / design from someone that doesn’t have a website of their own?

I know I wouldn’t. It just screams amateur even if you’re a true professional and your theme is awesome. The impression you present will be critical to how your customers perceive you. Why disadvantage yourself right at the launch?

Any sale is just the beginning of a relationship with a new customer, how they’re treated post sale will determine whether they’ll come back, refer you to others, etc. If you’re merely in it for short term gain, you may not last.

Furthermore, will you not offer some kind of off-site support besides basic email? You’ll likely want a site for that. The item comments section here should not be considered sufficient IMO .

for the pictures use amazon s3, it cuts the expensive bandwidth cost the hosting provides

Use dropbox as startup after few sales move to premium hosting services.
