Awesome, Adam! Looks fantastic, hope you’re having a great time with your travels! :) (just got back from Italy myself). I definitely need to make it to Nepal at some point.

wow, sounds stunning! 8 days sure is quick… no problems with acclimatising then :) How come you were so quick? Lucky weather or just faster since it was just yourself? Did you not get him to take you other places for the extra 6 days you’d hired him for or does it not work like that?

8 days is quick. We trekked at a fair pace and also missed an acclimatisation day on the ascent.

The biggest reason for being quick was that 15minutes after reaching basecamp, I got really sick with altitude sickness – my head started pounding, I needed to vomit and I felt as though I was about to have an aneurism.

It was pretty scary.

To relieve the symptoms, you simply need to descend – so we trekked for 11 hours straight to get down as low as we could, meaning in one day we had covered 4 days worth of trekking.

We carried on the increased pace for the next couple days to get back to Lukla, where we then spent a day.

My guide was adamant that we should just go back, but after the altitude sickness wore off I began to feel a bit annoyed at losing so much time from my trek.

My guide moved the return flight forward too whilst we were en route to Lukla so I had no way back out of it.

I later found out that the day we returned was the start of a big Hindu festival. So the reason we had such a quick pace, missed acclimatisation days (and consequently I got really sick) was because my guide wanted to get back home for the festival

We did have great weather, although we waited 4 days at the airport to get a flight up to Lukla because of fog on the runway.

Make sure you plan enough time to wait several days to get up there and back. Several days of delays is not unusual.

Wow! Amazing place and I’m so jealous :) Sorry to hear that the guide turned out to be an a**, but it seems you had the time of your life nevertheless.

I think it’s not proper way of blaming that guide..at that time we have our biggest festival ‘Dashain’, so it’s everybody rights to enjoy and share time with his/her family’s..
