Hello everyone, I have a business where I sell some electronic products, but I would like to implement forums for people to ask stuff and be answered by the staff and other users, and also create content pages where I can add tutorial articles with text, embedded videos, images, etc. for people to learn how to use the products.

I need my website to have basically these few things: 1) Store (Shopping Cart, products catalog) 2) Forums 3) Ability to let me write articles (content pages) as I want, with no need to go into coding (like a CMS ). 4) When they register and login, they can either purchase my products or write in the forums.

I’ve found a Magento theme that I really, really like, but I have not found out how to integrate a forum. I think I can create content pages too? My second best option theme is an OpenCart theme, but I have not found either how to integrate a forum. I also think I can create content pages here? I know I can use übercart and Drupal, but there are no good übercart themes plus the functionality of the shopping cart is not so good as Magento’s or OpenCart’s.

Can you guys tell me which one is better? Magento or OpenCart? Do you know how can I implement a forum and create content pages?

Thank you very much.

Magento is a better option for a complex and content-rich site like you’re describing. The fact that it’s funded by eBay / PayPal and has a profitable Enterprise business means the platform isn’t going to disappear anytime soon. OpenCart just doesn’t have the same momentum or resources pushing it forward.

Magento has CMS Pages built in, so you can create new content pages without coding. As for integrating a forum, I would just install a solid forum platform alongside Magento. You can easily link between them and the functionality you’ll have is far greater than any forum extension or integrator could provide.

Thank you very much for your reply Gravity I didn’t knew that Magento is funded by eBay and PayPal. About the forums, I would like them to be in the same site as everything else, just like ThemeForest, where I can easily click above in any of the categories and start shopping, or either click in Forums and start reading and posting. You think it can be done? They’ve recommended me http://www.invisionpower.com/apps/board/

Everything is possible. Your budget, timeline, and ability will determine how far you can go to achieve it. I’ve never worked with any forum platforms, so I can’t suggest one in particular. Do your research before making any decisions is the best advice I can give.

Thank you very much Gravity, will research a lot (that’s what I’ve been doing) and will post soon to see if you or anyone else can help me out!

Thanks!

David, si necesitas un desarrollador de Opencart puedes contar conmigo. En el caso específico de opencart.com ellos tienen un sistema de Forums instalado en un subdominio. Si te interesa podemos hacer algo similar. Escríbeme desde el perfil.

I think both of them are okie. But I prefer OpenCart more. I’m not a tech guy then I think OpenCart is more easier to use and it save money better. Have you ever tried to find OpenCart themes? There are millions awesome Free OpenCart Themes that you find easily. Unfortunately, both Mangento and OpenCart have not intergrated forum yet.
