I think it would be interesting to see some metrics on the average buyer across the marketplaces in the form of a anonymous voluntary survey with age, sex, occupation, file usage, avg. amount of purchases, types of files purchased, etc…

I think this would help us as Authors produce more valuable files, I mean one can already go through say ThemeForest and see that Portfolio type and Business type templates with sliders are very popular, but it would be nice to see some metrics across all marketplaces.

What do you guys think.

There is one downside, competitors getting hold of the data. I think only authors should be able to see this kind of data.

An addition to the motion…

I’d like stats for how many hits on each of my items, vs. sales of the item and time spent on the page, what page they came from and left to, and preferably which hits were sales and which weren’t.

The primary reason for this is I have files that I thought were quite useful but haven’t sold for crap (in fact I’ve used them as parts of projects that do sell very well, so I know they’re useful) So I dunno if it’s low turnover on users seeing it to actually buying it, in which case I want to delete it to take out the trash. But if it’s just that few people are seeing it, then there’s no harm in leaving it up, because it’s not cluttering anything then, and they still sell every great once in a while. It would also help greatly for cross promotion to know what items sell best per view, rather that which one’s just sell best, that way I can direct cross promotion traffic to them :)

Secondary usefulness is doing demographics for what types of files get looked at most, bought most per being looked at, etc, which can help in knowing what files to make.
