Hi,

i`ve read a lot about webhoster, but there are so many diferrent opinions. After long research i think MediaTemple and WPengine are one of the best hosters.

What`s your opinion about these two hosters? Some experiences?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Tobias

We use MT and it has been great in terms of speed, support etc. They have just been bought by GoDaddy – according to reports there will be no change and GoDaddy merely want to learn from how well MT do with Web professionals.

I have not used WPengine much before but can safely say you will not go wrong with MT

Hi charlie4282,

thanks for your answer.

What caching plugin do you use? What cdn? I`m asking because WPengine do that all for itself.

Other people, who have experiences with these two hosters?

I use WPEngine, they are pretty good from what I can see so far. They are quick to respond to support tickets.

no experience with MT but was not a big fan of goDaddy hosting ( used to run with them a couple of years ago )

as for CDN and caching WPEngine has their own solution .. they only allow WordPress on their server and so I assume you are after a caching solution for WordPress ( try http://wordpress.org/plugins/w3-total-cache/ , you can hook it up with a CDN like Amazon Cloudfront, MaxCDN, Akamai or Rackspace Cloud Files ).

Hope this helps

Hi SaijoGeorge,

thanks for your reply.

So, if you use WPEnginethere is no need for a caching-plugin? Is the speed compared to another hoster with a caching plugin better, the same or slower? What you would say?

Other people, who have experiences with these two hosters or another very good hoster?

I believe you don’t need another caching-plugin ( I am not 100% but I think they don’t allow 3rd party caching plugin because of this ).

I have not done any speed compared to another host with caching plugin so I cant answer that for you :( .

I’m finding (mt) to be rather slow, especially database calls, so I can’t recommend it. Have not used WP Engine.

For caching, do look into using Cloudflare – very satisfied with their service.

WPEngine does not offer e-mail-service, right?

WPEngine is good, but is a rip off.. You can get much better results with a good VPS and caching plugins for a third of the price you pay for WPE. I’ve tried it, hats off, it’s awesome! But i got slightly better results with a server for which i’ve payed $30, so the rest $70 doesn’t really worth the trouble for all the limitations (only 10 WP sites and no email, no cPanel, no anything)..

I now got a deal for a full year of hosting at $250 and the speed is better than WPE, so if price matters for you, search for something else :)

While (mt) is incredibly slow in Europe for WordPress sites (the gs) :D

For good stuff i would pay the $100. What does cPanel mean?

I`ve tried some caching plugins, but latest at minifying there are many problems – i mean reducing the requests without losing the css-design.

How to solve the problem with the e-mail-service? I´ve read something about using google apps for business?

If i use WPEnginge, i don`t need a third party backup plugin, right?

What hoster for vps you would recommand?
