Hey,

I recently made an application, which has a bunch of looping animations on it. There isn’t too much actionscript.

However, according to some site speed guys, when played a long time, the swf EATS up memory ..tons of it.

Is there a way to clear the memory the swf is using every 5 minutes or so? or refresh itself to fix memory issues?

here’s the url to the swf, to get an idea of the complexity. all objects are about 20 frames per, and loop infinite.

no problem, wasn’t familiar with the forum structure, and noticed there was a flash specific sub-forum at the later point.

wanted to reply with more specifics.

the swf loops animations which consist of around 20 or so frames which are jpgs. The overall swf size is only 500k, but from what I am gathering, when flash redraws any of these jpgs, it pulls more memory.

Is it possible to reset the flash or refresh the memory used?

you can’t “refresh the momory” on flash…
you need to optimize your code…
to use same instances, delete old ones.. etc

ok, but how can i do that? is that controlled through actionscript, or what?

...I use EVERY jpg in every animation, and loop each animation. all unused items in library are gone. It’s not a file size issue, it’s a “flash eats memory” issue.

the way you scripted the code eats the memory… you need to understand and optimize you code

???

but there is no actual code. only tweens and loops.

are you recommending rebuilding the entire swf, and controlling all animations via AS? that is impossible and impractical.

From what I’ve gathered info wise, certain players have issues with Memory Management and Garbage Collection.

I dont know much about flash…but I know for a FACT that animation is very much able to be controlled with AS. Most big wigs actually prefer it. The level of control is huge…

Hmm… i let open that flash some time and i did not see any problems with memory usage…
maybe is the processor usage that makes trouble?
keeps my Intel Q6600 at 30% .. pretty high for that kind of animations :)
