Is GMAIL safer than YAHOO MAIL ? Is home email safer than web based mail? I mean like mail on your own server, that opens with OUTLOOK for exmaple.

Gmail is known to have a better spam filter than yahoo. A cloud service is considered saver because unlike with a home system, you have multiple tiers of security. With your home mail, if you crack the account, that’s it. In a cloud, the data is spread and you need to crack multiple gateways before you can get in. Unless of course you trick someone into giving their pass.

whenever you use your own hosting pop3/imap server, make sure to request a secure option with encryption (so whenever you type the password/username the data being sent is encrypted). unless you pay for your own certificate, it will use a key that’s the same with everyone’s on that server (shared hosting etc.)..which is pretty useless once the key is cracked (although it is difficult to crack these keys).

oh and running something like spybot S&D helps…...

forget to tell you mihai….

this is what I usually use

http://www.jottings.com/obfuscator.htm

it will encrypt address with random key, and use javascript to display your email. only human can see it (for now) :D
