Hi everyone!

We’re pleased to announce the launch of a new, responsive, mobile friendly comments dashboard.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in two rounds of beta-testing. The results of the testing provided us with useful and detailed feedback.

Having consulted the community we found out that many authors required access to the comments dashboard from their mobile devices. The main reason for this need was to provide great customer service to their existing and prospective buyers.

Things we needed to provide in order to consider this project a success included:
  • being able to answer comments quickly, in any device context
  • increasing ease of use via enhanced UI elements for mobile; have appropriately sized touch targets for mobile devices on filters, links and buttons
  • providing design consistency between desktop and mobile devices
  • being able to filter and see buyer only comments
  • making it easier to reply, edit or flag a comment on mobile
We have provided:
  • a responsively designed, mobile-friendly version of the author dashboard focused exclusively on your item comments, extensively tested on a range of devices.
  • a responsive site header and footer (also tested), as we realise you can’t have one piece of the puzzle without the rest to guide you! :)
  • a new filter to see buyers comments only (in addition to read / unread)
  • the ability to mark all as read for either all comments or buyer comments
  • mobile-friendly touch targets and filters for easy filtering, pagination and comment settings
  • a better experience for editing and flagging comments
  • a new version of pagination (pagination summary) for smaller viewports (smaller in scale than the average tablet)

Our Grade A list (below) reflected the results of a Mobile Browser Preference survey we ran recently to support the hypothesis we had around which devices matched the list generated by Google Analytics. We know though, that many of you own what is predefined ‘edge case’ combination which might mean that your device and browser of choice doesn’t correspond to this list. We are happy for you provide feedback after this launch with any comments or identification of bugs you might experience whilst testing this beta/responsive version of the existing desktop design. You can provide this feedback using the survey link below, at the bottom of this post.

Results from our recent Mobile Preference Survey (July)

You can access the new comments dashboard by visiting your existing author dashboard, and clicking the button in the right sidebar that points to the Comments Dashboard (beta).

I would like to (again) thank all authors who have participated in the beta testing for this site enhancement, all of whom have contributed to what is a great first foray into making the Marketplaces UI mobile friendly.

If you have any further feedback that you would like to provide with regards to your experience, let us know!

Provide feedback or report bugs here

cheers,

Catherine

I notice a hidden page_load_time on the “Mark All Read” button, does this mean that if a comment comes into the dashboard after the page is loaded but before the “Mark All Read” button is clicked that the new comment will not be marked as read (if that makes sense lol)?

I appreciate the effort, but of all the things I could care less about on my big long list of wishes for improvement to the marketplaces, you found the number one thing I don’t need.

When are those search and shopping cart things coming?

Rating comments are still pending. Half star ratings are still incomplete due to search dept issues. Support tab successfully mounted with promises of future improvements but couldn’t move from its damaging phase to productive phase.

Hey VF, we second that and those are high on our priorities. Stay tuned.

Hey Parallelus, we hear you :) we know this is one step on a journey to UX improvements. We’d love to know your top 5?

Here you go:

  1. Sub-accounts for employees. Essentially being able to give someone else access to post updates, edit item descriptions and other repetitive tasks but wihout access to my financials.
  2. Automatic commission splits for multi-author items.
  3. Search item comments.
  4. Specify exclusivity on a per item basis.
  5. Specify extended license option on a per item basis.

Some of your competition already offer ALL of these features (with the possible exception of #1) so you should really get serious about this stuff. My bet is I could get in a time machine, go 10 years into the future and number 4 and 5 still won’t be available.

Thanks for taking the time to write this list Parellelus! As no doubt you know, in making great items of good quality, it takes time to get things right and we will :).
