How do you guys create seperate blog previews?

I do like to keep the WP coding to a minimum so that buyers can understand easier, so preferably, I try not to use custom loops.

I have an index.php file with the standard loop inside. When selected as “Blog” from Settings -> Reading, it displays the latest blog posts, but this limits me to a single blog page. I cannot have different blog templates, and show them at the same time with this method.

Yes that’s what I do and it works for buyers since they only need a single blog page.

But in theme previews, you can only select one page for your blog.

Are you looking just for a layout change? If yes, create a choice selector in the theme options, and arrange your content according to that value.. You can have the same blog with a different number of layouts..

Or, if the layouts are really different, just create two page templates for each blog layout..

Hi Ruben,

I understand what you mean, I created different templates such as template-blog-type1.php and template-blog-type2.php

But they work as a blog only if you select the page as a blog from Settings – Reading. Otherwise, the page returns empty.

Then you’re doing it wrong. Look at my Ikaros theme.. I have two distinct blog page templates and they both show all posts..

In fact, if you choose one of them to be default posts page(like you are currently doing), it won’t show any posts. That setting needs to be blank in my themes..

How does your WP query look like?

Hi,

Why you do not create a shortcode for Blog (also Portfolio). Also you can add unlimited blogs and portfolios anywhere.

Ex. [blog cat=”4” layout=”modern” count=”10” pagenavi=”on” tags=”on” etc…]

It is not quick solution, maybe you can do it next one :)

I actually do have it, but I don’t think its really a native solution for WordPress. I would like to use the WordPress core functionality if it allows.

I do not have a custom WP Query on blog pages.
