I think Google might just be a teeny-weeny bit bigger than Envato.
As far as I’m aware, you can’t have a hostile takeover of a company that’s not public. I don’t suppose Collis and Cyan are about to sell up a business they’ve built up very personally from scratch. But you never know.
But a flotation of Envato could be interesting. Management retains a greater than 50% stake to maintain control, but shares are offered at a certain price. (I bet masses of them would actually be bought up by Envato authors). Envato would get money for a faster pace of development, and authors would profit not just from their sales, but also from Envato’s profit and growth.
Any which way, the growth has been astonishing. A bit of amateur conjecturing now: I expect Envato that growth will slow down somewhat and Envato will enter a period of consolidation to cement its position in the market in the face of an increasing number of imitators and competitors.
