Hey Dex

I think it’s cool but the fonts for the titles are not jiving with the template. I would loose the underline in the menu hover. Change the buttons to something else maybe animated fades or something. Same goes for the image gallery i would add some cool hover effects. BTW i like the firs version more. I would make the message box the same width as the other two. if not then split it and add a google map or something.

Cheers

Lester

Thanks Lester and KarmaThemes.

I guess I will be going to completely redesign it, not getting that ‘premium’ feel with the current structure. but have some other planned things at the moment, so this has to wait now.

Thanks everyone once again.

LOADS better, loving that right hand side now, much, much better. Just tweak the typography and work on the finer details and polish before resubmitting.

TBH , a nice club-esque type photo as a fullscreen background with the white content box being changed to a transparent black would look sexy as hell and would set it off.

Thanks Scott, but, Well, it’s still rejected – LINK

I tried to make it different by keeping the side bar fixed at right, haven’t seen many templates doing it, but I guess need to bring it to left ? Well clueless at the moment. may be droid sans not suited for body text? Or may be its too narrow? Or may be I need to add huge gaps between Home, About, and other pages? (as some other single page templates did) ? Or may be it’s the portfolio section? Or may be the icons that I added newly? Or may be all of these issues ?

I did the fine-tooth comb thing already to make sure everything on the page is exactly same distance away (except for the page title), whatever it is, I learnt a lot while making this and I hope that my new gained knowledge will help me create better design/layout in future.

Here is the feedback I got :

I’m sorry Dexterous but it seems like the design is moving in the wrong direction.

As I mentioned, I love the features here but the design simply doesn’t cut, sorry.

I strongly recommend seeking feedback via our forums or sites such as http://Dribbble.com, http://ConceptFeedback.com or http://Forrst.com. These are all fantastic resources to seek feedback from fantastic designers who have a knack of getting things approved.

As I mentioned, this template has a great start but will need improvements before this can be approved.
Seems like reviewer has given up on this layout :-(

Honestly, I personally don’t think that it moved to wrong direction though.

Thanks a lot everyone for the feedback.

Right side is super (if you will remove gradient from the logo or will make it less visible) but left side… how to say softly… no, it is not that good. You will need to focus on left part–icons, fonts, headings, buttons–these elements need to be changed in drastic and urgent way.

And main background… it does not fit the atmosphere of pop-musician website. It fits more some dusty insurance office. You need something brighter, more dynamic, louder even.

And photos you use are awfully generic, replace them with more individual, personalised photos, they will work for you better. Wish you good luck, do not trash it away, remember, right side is almost perfect, you need just to bring the left side to the same level.

Thanks virtuti, I am not going to trash it away.. Thanks for all your suggestions.. I guess I am worked up, will take a break and come back and work on typography more. just one question which I really want an answer to – Do I need to insert huge gaps (like 400 px) between the contents of two sections ?

As I said, I think its the harsh white content area that’s not helping, something more like this:

Then work on the type, spacings and polish.

As for me, I never make such gaps (while I use often a scroll plugin), it is because my own habit is to scroll manually and when I see big gaps I feel the layout is odd and as if incorrect. I cannot say whether majority of people scroll manually or click the anchors, but I believe anyway, avoiding big gaps may be is a righter way.

Just a quick note to let you know that both Scott and virtuti are on the money. The right column looks great but the left single handedly wrecks the overall feel.

Please don’t trash the design. :)
