Hey it is very simple thing – I need a PC. A monster. (Not MAC.(I hate Macs)) It will be for video editing, 3D editing, montage, rendering, sound editing and so on.

Budget is around 4000$

I wount buy it from some paticular spot on internet. I will buy it in parts, here where I live, through my friends company. I am too busy with creative jobs so lately I wasn’t too much into newest techs about PC’s.

What I am asking is – can you guys, write specifications of a PC which you would purchase for 4000$. The more detailed it would be, the better.

Thank you!

I would say a 6 core / 12 threads processor

http://ark.intel.com/products/47932/Intel-Core-i7-980X-Processor-Extreme-Edition-12M-Cache-3_33-GHz-6_40-GTs-Intel-QPI

gtx690 nvidia or one of the quadro series if you don’t want to do anything else then rendering and editing on your machine. The prior is more of a all rounded better card.

32 or 64gb of ram depending on the motherboard your going with and what types of memory.

at least 2 ssd’s to run your software windows/editing tools and 1 to render upon.

The rest is all up to you, cooling/case/motherboard/soundcards/ is just preference based so i cant really give a opinion about them other then they should be compatible with your other hardware :p

Have fun building the beast! 4k budget makes a sweet monster.

@Massfocus I guess thats a very nice solution. You see I don’t know what motherboard to choose :D I am a realy bad expert in this stuff, Maybe I was three years ago when I used to overclock my GPU and processor, but now I am too busy with cinema and ads. All I need is a fully complectated pc :))) Can you full it up? :) What motherboard and what soundcard.

Would love too but the thing is i know the prices in euros and i kind of calculate in that way, i have no idea what the costs are for you and where you are going to order it also plays a factor. Just look at a motherboard with 4 slots of memory or 8 like i said depending on you and your budget. Also compatible with your processor, they all have a descent sound card installed on them currently so i wouldn’t even bother with buying a separate one.

You shouldn’t be overclocking that specific chip i linked so stock cooling with a nice airflow case should be sufficient. A 850 or 1k power supply to complement i suppose.

But i am doubting if the 6core i just linked really is worth the money atm. So you really shouldn’t take my word for all of it :) Just giving suggestions.

I think the ultimate solution is building a server with 2x i7 chips 4core 8 threads resulting in 8 core 16 threads with 64gb memory and videocards in sli or a big quadro card with ssd’s.. but this is more of a fantasy build :P

Ps. Overclocking with the new generation chips and motherboard is as easy as clicking a button btw, it isn’t like it was before where you risked blowing up your pc everytime ;D so that shouldn’t be an issue if you are thinking about doing that.

Ok ;) Thanks Massfocus.

So can anyone else, add something to this? And offer his solution ? :)

By the way, can you Massfocus atleast tell me an example? Like which motherboard would have 8 ram slots? or atleast where to look them up.

You see I can’t just tell them I need something very powerfull, I have to tell exact name and brand and so on. They will just order it without any knowledge about it.

i don’t have much time so on the fly i think a good easy solution is this one with starting price at 2300$ but you can easily reach 4k!

Also a solid and quick solution is this one. The site hasn’t any prices, but write them an email with your badget and in general what you need and they will offer you a good solution.

I know you said you want to build it piece by piece… but sometimes support is a very handy thing to have. Anyway cheers man and have fun during holidays! :)

On a second look i think 8 memory slots is too much for the budget, you would be sacrificing allot on cpu/videocard if you wish to have 64gb compatible motherboard with 8 memory slots.

Instead i would go for a standard 4 slot and a 4×8 gig = 32gb memory. For example http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/ASUS/Maximus_V_Extreme/1022173/ Or a cheaper version the one i have http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/ASUS/P8Z77-V_PRO/991214/

These are just examples friend, i don’t have much time to go into more detail atm. Wish you good luck :) Feel free to email me about the subject if you have questions, i could answer them at another time.

The one flashato linked is a very cool one as well, i would look into that if your budget reaches it.

Ok so I still don’t know what fits where are how to make a PC complectation for 4000$ :)

I guess I will go to some PC store and try to get some offers, but they wount be aware of my needs – of video editing needs and so on. They will try to offer me some shitty more localy known brand offers for “low” price and I will believe that is it good. I live in lithuania thus I just can’t go to local PC store and ask technician for helping me to find a monster PC for 4000 dollars. He will faint. We(ordinary lithuanians) do not have it here daily – such pc’s or such sums. What I need to do to purchase such PC is to tell all those brands, exact models to a person who will order them cheaper from other countries through resellers or directly from intel or asus or so on. All I need is complete specifications, and names. I do not know what I need because I am not aware of the newest models :) I have tried to find the best completed PC here localy which is:

Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme 3,3GHz / 2×4x2GB DDR3 2400MHz / 120GB SSD / 1TB 7200rpm / Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB / DVD+-RW / CardReader / 850W PSU 80 Plus / ATX

which costs 3000$ and for such money is a complete pieace of crap even to my knowledge.
