If you go there in Firefox, it looks perfect. If you go there in IE, there’s a huge chunk of the background content image missing. Any ideas why?

I’m no expert but it seems to me, this is the source of the problem;

fw-blockContainer {background: transparent url(http://www.freewebs.com/sdtestdummy/templates/nineAMv2/content.png) repeat-y;}

maybe try removing the transparent bit or something?

Actually the layout is pretty messed up. FF and Safari seem to loose upper parts of content background. You have tried to give h2#fw-smalltitle 61px of height, but it’s an inline element. If you want it to have height you need to change its display to inline-block. This should fix the FF/Safari problem.

I recommend revising box model: page wrapper has 951px of width and the h2#fw-smalltitle has 951px + 13px of padding on each side, that makes it 977px wide. Also when you calculate paddings and heights of header elements you will end up with a result higher than 120px of header height. Try fixing those first and see how this works in IE.
