Hey guys, I designed a nice template a few years ago for a category that has never been used here on TF, the “Nightlife category”. I sort of g ave up on it years back, and now I want to pull it out of the trash and continue it as I know it has potential. I have the home page just about done, but wanted to hear your guys’ input

I think you should find another image before moving on. The photo just doesn’t scream Vegas .. or nightlife. Its more like a traffic shot you see on the 10 o’clock news. The image just really throws me off immediately. I’ve also been a pro photographer for 20 yrs though so that might have something to do with the way it effects me.

well definitely a higher quality image.

and if you are going to keep the semi-transparent panel look it needs to be a photo that doesn’t cause eye strain when you try to read a full length text article. Which any nightlife styled shot is going to cause that problem .. there’s too many extreme contrast blurs and color shifts at night. I would probably drop the big image behind the content all together and save the huge displays for the gallery page. That would make for a more impressive gallery too … minimal images in the layout and then the visitor clicks gallery and POW !! .. big huge visual richness.
