There’s much more to do then just make the bg darker. You should consider changing the logo, I mean different font and more artistic. Navigation also, make links uppercase and description lowercase ans float all left. Twitter updates are the first but I think they should be somewhere in the middle of the sidebar and sidebar should be on the right. These are just small changes I could tell You but overall it needs really more work for this type of design.
If I where a reviewer I wouldn’t accept it.
