I am making a photography portfolio website for my cousin who has no technical ability (HTML, FTP etc etc) and needs a website she can update herself.

Wordpress is over-complicated and I have avoided it until now as clients don’t understand how to update/add a page etc.

Are there any simpler alternatives or is it just ‘Blogger’ ?

There are lots of CMS ’s, unfortunately I cannot recommend any of them, because I’ve got no experience with any other than just wordpress.

A list of a few though;
Cushy CMS LightCMS Drupal

A quick google search will do the trick as well I think.

CushyCMS could be good solution. Avoid Drupal, it’s far more complicated than WP (which is very easy ;))

If it’s updates to galleries of photos why not either integrate a flickr stream and they can use the desktop uploader for free to really easily upload new photos / create sets etc. Or use a stand alone php script to login – attach image and note and add to a gallery?

Then the rest of the site can be either static or wordpress and maintained by you for the possible 2 alterations per year?

Does thathelp or do they need to change the info on pages also?

Yeah a flickr stream would be a good option, although like some people have said i don’t think Wordpress can get any easier!

There are many, many options to choose from, different roads to go down, all are different and different coding abilities and user abilities but to be honest the easiest one i can think of that works out of the box and has many free themes to choose from, loads of plugins, widgets etc and is more user friendly is Wordpress.

(not just saying that cause i am a Wordpress developer) lol ;)

Thanks for the tips everyone but as someone who has never used Wordpress I am not in the position to help my cousin understand how to use it so I think its Flash XML or nothing. (See my other post about me being new to this), thanks.
