I’m looking for a clean, corporate theme but with a small header at the top instead of the big jquery image sliders that seem to dominate most WP themes. Can anyone suggest a WordPress theme that fits the bill?

Usually the slider is on the landing (or home) page only. So you can choose any theme and use other pages, usually they come with different examples of pages. And a slider is usually really easy to remove

Most of themes will give you the option of turning the slider on/off, through the admin options panel.
