They just went full iPad on us! That sidebar makes it seem straight off a tablet app 
I guess I have to use it to see if I like it, but it sure does look refreshing. Sure looks nice! Bit wasteful with the screen real estate, but that’s a trend we have to live with I suppose.

really looks like they just took the instagram site and skinned it to facebook’s colors (but its probably the same designer/team)

I was reading about this earlier, I think it looks great.
But on a side note, on that demo link … love the slider ! Nice work facebook, and the ajaxified Join the List button.

How ridiculously cliché. They say that, then give a totally mundane, unoriginal content box below.. the only colour being a photograph. They’re essentially saying “So long as people post colourful photographs, you will have a colourful news feed”
I don’t think it’s anything special in terms of visual design. They usually impress with other little interface tweaks, though. So I’ll wait before I make a decision.
