and force review for 4 stars too.

This is bad idea. If you have a happy customer who wants to vote for your item giving you 4-5 stars, then nothing will discourage him more then obligation of writing a review. Some customers will write a review but many customers will just go away and you will get no rating at all. Sometimes people are lazy (I’m am ;) ).

Only for 4 stars, not 5. If the Item is good, it’ll have an average of 4.5+, and a 4 stars rating will hurt it. Plus it means that something can be done to make it perfect. If someone is rating 5 stars, then there’s nothing to say, a review is not needed as it means the Item works as advertised.

Great news, but why not make the review public?

Point of this was to show to other interested customers what these 1-star ratings are about, so that they can ignore that rating if it is for a stupid reason.

If that is not available to buyers and I can see that it is a ridiculous reason, it makes the whole thing even more frustrating. Now people can even write me some hate-mails (“heya look here, 1 star for you hahaha”) while rating me down, nobody else will know and can only guess. So do we have a report-function to remove bad ratings in case they are nonsense?

Agreed .. and I have no problem making the reviews public, but the problem is, then only the bad reviews (If you get any) will be there .. because it is highly unlikely that an author who give you a good rating (4 or 5) would write a good review in the “optional” comments section.

Anyway this is great news for me :)

My experience shows a bit different. Out of the eleven 5-star reviews I’ve received since this change went live, six have a comment attached. So it appears happy customers are quite willing to spend a minute sharing their experience.

This is a fantastic start and step in the right direction, but now that I’ve had the chance to use it for a little while, I have a couple suggestions.

Firstly, I agree that feedback is a nice addition so we know why they’re upset when its a bad, the problem is that there is nothing we can do about it. The most frustrating part of receiving a 1-star rating, or any poor rating for that matter, is that we cannot reach out to the customer. In my experience, once you receive a 1-star rating, it sticks because the customer surely isn’t using your plugin anymore. It would be nice to reach out to them and try to earn a better rating once you have changed the bug that upsets them.

Secondly, I think that reviews should be public. A rating is a brief overall description of how the customer feels, but I think that customers should be able to gauge those ratings for themselves. Find out why it received the given rating because while something might upset one person, it doesn’t necessarily upset them all. Authors are only as good as their reputation, so there’s nothing to keep secret here.

Finally, thank you Envato. Since I’ve become a member, I only got a total of 3 ratings on all my work. This will certainly change the way our work will be seen by the customers.

Does this allow us to reply to low ratings (like on amazon/ebay) because I think that would be important to get a proper reflection of the rating as else it would allow irate buyers to just down rate you and say the script was terrible quality without any means for authors to respond which would, if anything, make things worse imo..

2 TF Staff! I tried to contact the buyer today but there is no contact form. Are you going to implement this option?

This option is not currently available. It may be opened up in the future, but at the moment we’re just making it possible for authors to collect feedback. Thanks!

I don’t think this should be implemented only if the user/buyer chooses to display the contact form in his profile.

As a personal feedback to this thread, in my opinion we need transparency in ratings, to go public and us authors to have the possibility to reply to them and express our personal opinion.

A user which is rating 1 star for various reasons should be asked for more info and us authors should have the possibility to reply and express our opinion aswell.
