Detailed ratings is good, envato moving forward, thanks! But explain me somebody how it works on Audiojungle or Photodune? Before purchase there buyers can see/listen full front-end product, and choose is it suitable for him needs. I don’t understand why buyers after purchasing some my music give me low rating. I do not see criterias to rate files after purchase there in a whole. For such products as music I think better to integrate “like/appreciate” system instead may be.

I personally agree with you, but we haven’t made a decision either way on this yet.

Over time, a different approach might be needed for items that are much more “what you see/hear is what you get”. The first step for us (sorry for sounding like a broken record!) is to collect som e internal data — what was the primary reason for the buyer’s rating?

I think that big problem here is that only around 10-15% of buyers rate our projects! Probably there is a lot of people who simply don’t want or forgot to do that… but there is also a lot of users (especially new ones) who simply don’t know where to rate. I’ve had lot of cases when users asked me where they can rate my project, because they can’t find it in items page…

Anyway I think that good solution for that is to provide buyers some additional simple explanation in the purchase confirmation mail. For example Print screen of download page with marked spots where to click! :).

However, I do think there should be a minimum amount of votes to enable the breakdown. Keep it as 3 minimum required for the average vote system and say around 10 minimum for the breakdown to appear.

Great feedback and insight thanks, will think about this.

This feature does not work for audio sold on the Envato network, simple as that.

I personally agree with you, although we haven’t made a formal decision on this yet. A similar problem exists on PhotoDune and other items.

The first step we’re taking is to collect the primary reason for the rating from the buyer, so that we can see what the root cause of “surprising” ratings on AJ are.

Come on Envato, it’s time to allocate resources into the right areas like the search engine, this type of development really isn’t needed in the AJ marketplace. I can only see the reason for publicly ignoring the majority of authours’ opinions is because you have to roll features out across all marketplaces at once – is that right?

Search is a big deal for us, even if it’s not evident yet. We’re actively hiring developers and other folks with specialist experience in this field, dedicated to working on search full time.

We do roll out features to all marketplaces at once (they’re the one code base, the same server can serve a request for AJ followed by PD followed by TF). This is mostly a really really good thing (most features are of benefit to most marketplaces, and they all get them at the same time without duplication of work) and occasionally not so good (where a particular category or marketplace needs something different).

There’s plenty of places where we’ve done something unique to suit a marketplace, and we will need to get better at this and do it more frequently in order to deliver a great user experience in each market place.

This can’t all happen instantly, but we’re definitely not ignoring you.

Good to hear that the search is still a major priority. Let’s be honest, it’s been a while since the new search was announced and the complaints of customers about the outdated search engine keep coming even more since Audiojungle has grown so fast over the last year.

But back to topic: I’m glad that you agree with Taco, because I think he’s spot on. This feature doesnt work for Audiojungle, nor does it work for Photodune. So I hope it will be only a temporary solution and I’m looking forward to see a better rating system for the ‘what you see/hear is what you get’ marketplaces in the near future.

Now I’m 100% sure there are competing authors who purchase items and rate them 1 star! That’s just pathetic.

I’ve had buyers email me saying they are unhappy and rating an item as 1 star and are going to request a refund. These buyers are not other authors and they do not reply to my messages. So why are you 100% sure it’s other authors?

again: dev’s top job on the new feature :) hard to keep everyone happy !

Suggestion: Don’t truncate significant digits from numerical averages. Currently I’m a 4.62, but I see others listed like 4.6. This should be displayed as 4.60. This tells the user more about the granularity of the rating. It should be consistent instead of truncating zeros.

Thanks, will do.

Rating in the Profile still based on the old system. That would be nice to see there this kind of stars. 4+ is definitely not equal with 4. Thanks again for this improvement guys.

I am just trying to say that it will be very helpful if there are some options to communicate with those unhappy customers.

Totally agree, and that’s what turns a simple “just add a comment field” into a bigger build. Tools for communication back and forth, moderation and dispute resolution, re-ratings, replies, etc all need to be thought through.
