And still ratings without comments…
Please see my post The Starting point for Ratings. This is the next most requested feature, we’re looking into it and doing our research. No guarantees on the exact feature set, but we hear (all of) you :)

How is this coming? Still gathering data?

Just saw another thread, seems like you’re working on the Item Support tab. Is this the priority? I mean, after Item Support tab is done, you’ll be re-starting with Ratings?

After the brake-down, my best seller plugin (ex 5 Star, now 4.5 Star) doesn’t sell anymore.

The main rating should be without a half star because you already can see the average rating and counts per star. Also the count per stars should be expandable and hidden by default.

I absolutely agree, My sales have dropped significantly (by out 40-50%) since the ratings breakdown appeared on the item pages.

Not to mention that the 1,2 and 3 star ratings make no sense in AudioJungle, where the customer purchases the audio tracks they already have listened to.

Please Envato, do something about this ASAP!

@Melodality: Absolutely agree! We also experienced a severe drop in sales after the rating breakdown has been added to our items. Obviously we just sell just items with no or 5 stars ratings, so it affects the buyer’s choice for sure! It’s also hard to understand why so many bad ratings here exist among AudioJungle, because of the fact what you hear is what you get?!

At least allow us to decide if we want to display the ratings breakdown or not on our items. This breakdown is a feature that wasn’t there before signing up as an author, hence the least i’d expect is a cop out option.

The breakdown itself is taking away too much attention from our items and in addition it influences buyer rating decision. Should I rate a 5 ? Look, everybody has rated this a 5 star, i’m going to settle for a 3 or a 2 perhaps. Oh, nobody has rated 1 ? Let me be the first then!

This is a very likely behavioral pattern that will emerge from the ratings breakdown, so let’s not encourage it!

Right now, even if there was a genuine reason for receiving a 1star rating, after having fixed the issue that caused the negative rating, it will always show in the breakdown regardless. This wasn’t the case earlier. Earlier, if an item had a negative, through hard work, one had the possibility to bring this back up. Now, even if you bring it up, it will always show in the breakdown. I don’t need it there if whatever issue that caused the negative rating is fixed.

The breakdown is nice for an author eyes only. Not for the public :P

Ratings with comments will not be “just around the corner”, you probably need to set your expectations a bit further out sorry. This sprint (two weeks) we’ll be shipping the screen that collects a primary reason from buyers for our own private research, so that data will start flowing in over the following month — we haven’t agreed on a good sample set of data yet, but we’ll want more than a few days or weeks.

We’re not exclusively working on Item Support in this sprint either — some of the other smaller requests related to ratings (such as moving the ratings panel further down) are also in progress right now, more on those as they’re ready.

Small, incremental steps in the right direction :)

Just wanted to chime in about the placement of content (shown in mockup a few times in this thread).

The most important part for any item is branding. Authors work hard to build a reputation, and we want customers to recognize our brand the moment they land on one of our items. Because of this, the first piece of content shown should always be the avatar box.

Showing the number of sales is the second most important part of selling an item. When customers see the total sales number, they’re instantly shown how popular the product is.

Next up: RATINGS :) This information is much more relevant now that the customer already knows the total number of sales.

Comments are important as customers can click the button and view support quality. If they’re grouped with total sales then there’s no need to separate them. But for the sake of this list, they’re second to last in the order of importance.

Last up, social buttons. Sharing is caring, but when it comes to selling items, all the above items take priority.

Exactly. Great breakdown of the sidebar elements and their relative utility/importance. I’d also add that the Average Rating and the Ratings Breakdown have separate priorities. The actual ratings breakdown is less of a priority than the overall rating, which is why in my opinion it should be hidden on page load and then revealed with a click, as others have suggested. (Though I agree that the order is more important than the hide/reveal functionality).

To those who are suggesting that their sales have declined due to the half-star ratings… my top selling item went from 5 stars to 4.5 stars. Sales have actually increased over the past week and a half, and I highly doubt these more detailed ratings have anything to do with that. I don’t think your sales decrease is any more related to the half-star change than my increase is; sales simply fluctuate over time, and at any given time, some authors’ sales are increasing and some are decreasing, and those events will often coincide with some sort of change in the marketplace (bundles, UI changes, ratings, etc). But coincidence of two events does not imply causality, and certainly can’t be inferred with any certainty from a sample of 1.

Try to relax and work on some new products; your sales will likely go back up again in the normal course of marketplace fluctuations :)
