Great one but useless until “trending item” mark appear over each item not through search only. If you look at

It will only be useful if it appears on first go

Another great feature to boost already popular items and wordpress things especially, you have to love the direction where all these things are going.

Great work you’re doing :)

Thanks digital science. That is the thinking we had as well. It did bring up the question of “what if an item is both new and trending and [some other achievement]?” With this implementation we would only be able to display one of these at a time. We may go ahead in a similar direction to what you have hear for the short-term.

I agree it makes things more complicated with 3 tags. I’m just looking at this objectively from a buyers point of view – he see’s a bunch of items in a search result.. some have high sales, some have very low sales… and most importantly there’s no indication of date creation. So for those low sale items, at a glance it’s not possible to tell why it’s sales are low, it could be that the file is recently approved or it could be the file’s been around for a while but isn’t selling well. This is quite a disadvantage to new files – so this is where the “new” tag would come in handy, just to indicate anything fresh on the market, buyers like to see the latest stuff too!

For what we have now I think the “trending” tag does what is intended to highlight good sellers – regardless of sales count, so a nice improvement!

Wouldn’t it be great if some of your trending items appear on your profile page? Below your Featured file on the right for example.

@damirkotoric, While sorting the results with Trending descending order, noticed that many irrelevant items are staying on top of perfectly relevant ones. In fact irrelevant items are marked with trending icon while relevant ones not marked.

This can be solved if key word search strictly gives priority for title and tag and leave the description match for non trending list / unmarked ones. (or whatever)

Example case: In Codecanyon, search with the keyword “tabs” and this is the result while sorting with Trending. In the list, compare the last few items that are marked with trending and first few items that are not marked with trending.

This sounds like another good idea, I just hope it gets expanded. I didn’t understand that it only appears on the search page and that doesn’t quite make sense unless you’re only testing it at the moment. While the search is nice, it’s still so vague that I hardly use it. It might take more time, but I don’t always trust that the search engine is returning everything relevant to me so I go by category to ensure I don’t miss something great :)

Just curious. I have 2 items: Layered Popups and Layered Popups for WordPress (although I put these links to make the question more clear, it can be considered as self-promotion; if so, mods, please remove the links). Both of them do the same, but first one is a standalone script, second one – WordPress plugin. WordPress plugin is more popular. It has more sales and every week it is in the middle of “Weekly Top Sellers” list. Moreover, according to Google Analytics, WordPress plugin has more then twice pageviews (comparing to standalone script) for last week. However, “Trending” badge is on standalone script, but not on WordPress plugin. I also played with periods in Google Analytics and didn’t notice any growth of pageviews for both items (user interests is stable).

Just curious, how “trending” is calculated? :-)
