Yep, good point. To be clear, we want to understand the buyer’s perspective — if this is what they’re thinking about when rating items, then we need to know it, but we aren’t insinuating that this should be the case. In fact, we’re trying to do the opposite with our work on the item support tab.

As an author who actually sold some stuff and communicated with couple of buyers, I can 100% guarantee that “willingness to help with questions or customisation” will drop EVERY item rating below 4 stars. Do Envato really wants to have 4/5 marketplace??

In the meantime, we have some ratings-related improvements that are achievable right now, support the general direction we’re headed, and the community has been asking for them for a very long time. We prefer to ship these ASAP instead of holding off any longer. I understand that you disagree, but in this case, I think the overwhelming majority of the authors in this thread support our incremental approach.

Well, I really really wait this feature!

I don’t understand why now, people buy for instance html5 items (in which they see all the code before the purchase) then in 30 seconds after they purchase it, bang, here it comes the 3 or 4 stars rating! No comment, no asking for support, just the rating…I would really love to see an explanation/comment when they give a negative rating!

Counting ThemeForest and CodeCanyon authors, we’re over 4,000. If we count all the marketplaces, we are over 20,000. How come 64, or even 100 (counting other threads) can decide about this? I accept the will of the majority, but I don’t think 64 people represent that.

I probably didn’t phrase this very well — I didn’t say that the majority of authors had spoken, I said that the majority in this thread seemed to be in support of a decision we’ve made. This gives me confidence in our decision, but it didn’t drive it.

Really looking forward to how this one pans out. Could be quite a change. I hope it ends up changing the sentiments where everybody always wants a 5-star raiting, and 3 or 4 stars is considered horrible. Up to this point, that has completely defeated the purpose of a rating system. I’m curious to see how that holds up in the new system..
