well…. that is cool. Is a great license for Graphic River…... Someone can buy menus or web items from GR and put it in Theme Forest Items….. But….... I would love to see somewhere stated, that the TF author has to put a link to the work in GR….... (to give the author some credit too…) As for 7march…... well….... have you actually bought something here in an Envato Marketplace….. or have you downloaded that item illegally?.....................

It is stated in the license that in any electronic products, it cannot seem as though you created the product you bought and you must credit the author and link-back to the file on envato.

“You must not display the product in such a way as to suggest that the product was created by you. If you incorporate the product in an electronic work such as a software program, a web site, computer networks or the like you must acknowledge the source of the product and include a hyperlink back to the web page on which the product is offered for sale on the relevant Envato site.

thanks msfx but now i am confused….

u saying buy a template and charge for alterations :( this is too confusing

a client comes to me asks me he is a photographer… and he needs a website in flash where in three links ( its just an example ), about me, photo gallery and contact..

now i will but a xml template and any xml template has all such sections..will delete it and will hand it over and will charge 1000 usd..

is it legal..coz in this case i wont be doing anything more than 1 hours of max efforts…

but since my client is elite i will charge him usd 1000 or usd 500 whatever…

so is it legal please tell

my question is only professional will buy stock and professional will use to re-sell it :( with minor or major alterations or with absolutely no alterations

so please tell me and clear my doubts

thanks

It’s legal, it’s up to you how you price your work / your time. It’s legal using any of the licences for the amount f uses specified in the licence. Eg: you can use the single use license for one person, if another person wants it again, you’ll have to buy another single use license or the 10 use license. You charge whatever you want for the work you do.

If I purchase an image and use the image in a template for sale I’d put the link and information about the file into a read me document no questions asked.

But let’s be honest here. Are we expecting someone who purchased the product (for example a website theme) to place a link on their website that they bought for the image we incorporated? I know I’d never purchase the template if I had to dirty up the site with links to different assets.

I’m just thinking about the end user.

OK here’s another question. Envato controls the prices of the items sold here. I create a theme using an image that I have to pay this liscense to use in the template to increase sales. Will Envato increase the price of the item or will I end up loosing money by purchasing a file from here. I worry that I might want to purchase a flash header to use in a template which costs me approx. $10-15 to buy depending on the number of sales I make on the theme I sell and the market place prices my theme at $15. I don’t make any money.

I’m assuming at this point I’d want to put the theme up with the asset and without the asset so the seller could decide if they want to pay a premium to get the header.

In the long run I’d rather show the flash component in the theme and sell it without that asset and provide the purchaser with a link over to the asset to purchase seperately. I’d provide code to place it into the theme or leave it out and then I don’t have to worry about the cost and the author of the other file has to support their work.

does that make sense?

Yes, this is what authors already do here. On Flashden for example, we use watermarked music/videos from AJ and VH, and don’t include it in the download, while linking to it on the description’s page. (Of course the original creator has to agree to this)

Generally, I don’t think this license was intended to be used by Envato authors. Would you buy a flash header or banner rotator for $500 (50x$10)? No, as you pointed out, you wouldn’t make any profit from your item, plus, you could easily get it done much cheaper through freelance.

I think this license is intended for bigger companies that can afford the original higher cost of that license while still making a profit, such as the examples in the license terms.

As far as we are concerned, we should keep “borrowing” watermarked files from other marketplaces, as long as the original author agrees and the file is not included in the download, plus linking to it. It seems Envato is happy for us to do that, as long as it all stays within the marketplaces.
