A good plugin is WYSIJA but the free version has some limitations

Nah, I’m using Joomla 3.0, only compatible newsletter extension costs over $100 with some limitations, full featured costs even more. And free version is more limited than a Justin Bieber. So I would settle with PHP script and integrate it.
