Even if the other types of themes started selling much better all of a sudden, after increasing the prices of multi-purpose ones (which is a very dubious prediction, by the way), where is the logic behind increasing the price of something that is not of better quality? That just wrong on so many levels, and I just can not agree with that, no matter of the perceived benefits for more simple themes.

There must be another way of distinguishing multi-purpose themes from other types of themes. Raising the price of lower quality software is just a ridiculous, in my opinion, and relying on the hope that this will somehow give the competitive advantage to more simple themes is yet another flawed argument for this whole thing.

We have to use our imagination here, but say heavy bloated themes were priced higher – they would still sell well but would level the playing field for lighter single purpose themes. So if value for money wasn’t the overriding factor and everything was priced accordingly what would the main factors for selling be: originality, uniqueness, latest trends, quality, front end design. light and clean code, usability etc… this is what would make a better marketplace. If $40 files could become top sellers for the week, then these are the types of new trends we would see.

acting like you know what’s going to happen in the future is best left to the likes of Nostradamus or the Mayans. :)
well that’s another topic and don’t get me started on that … ask VF :D

I know you’re into that kind of stuff. :) I checked out your profile years ago stalk mode on, and saw your flash video about the Mayans or Aztecs, if I recall well, which is the reason why I said what I did, to see if it will trigger you to say something about it. Mission successful :D

However, I’d prefer if we could leave our personal beliefs on one side, when it comes to the discussion about the future of the marketplace.

Now we’re getting all philosophical. :D Since we’re all about that know, I would like to quote a brilliant philosopher, who sums up all of my thoughts about this marketplace:

With this, my contribution to this discussion ends for today. Have a good one! :D

Wait, so now, to publish a theme on ThemeForest we need to create 30+ variations? Because the latest approved themes show that. Seems it’s the only way to survive in this marketplace, it’s getting absurd, in a few months we’ll see 60+ demo variations for 55$.

When will Envato acknowledge this? And do something?

Newest item of the marketplace: [removed]

I think that this item should be sold 150-250$ or even more. It includes nearly all variations…ever.

It’s nearly impossible to compete with this for a single developer.

@codepanels, try not to call out items on the marketplace, that can end up with threads being locked :)

No problem :) I marked your post because of this, but your point still stands, there are 2 themes by my count currently on the homepage that are offering between 10 & 30 different demos & configurations, yet are still priced the same as any other “standard” theme will WooCommerce.

Funny thing is that this cannot be called multipurpose theme since it is not that, it is a full page builder. Another thing, buyers can make tons of pages with one theme, why should they buy more licences? And even if we find out what can we do but don’t support them, which doesn’t help since they can just download an updated version that’s it.

Its getting more frustrating by the day.
