Since many publisher, no matter which kind of business, release there documentations online and stop including a printed version in their package I’m wonder if we can do it similar.

Instead of updating both version every update I would include a documentation.html in the download package which redirects to the online version. This way I can have documentations on one place and keep them up-to-date more easily

What do you think?

I’ve done this on some codecanyon items, a readme.txt file with a link to online docs, no issues there yet.

Have yet to try this with themeforest, will be attempting this in my next upload this week and see what reviewer says :)

I think it’s better to have them both in the download (HTML) and online. Sometimes people will need to read the docs when they are not connected (ex. working on local server, but no Internet access), so having a redirect will definitely get your customers angry :)

Maybe a big button at the top saying click here for latest updated documentation online?

ajax load in latest documentation over the top of old documentation :P

fallback of no internet would be old documentation.

^ good idea. I guess reviewers don’t look if the documentation has been updated correctly in a new update

I used to do this for my Themeforest items, but sometime around October (last year), Ivor noticed that and told me I’m required to include an offline documentation and not just a link to an online documentation.

In my opinion, online documentation is far much easier to maintain than offline ones. :)
