Opera - 300 million users and move to WebKit

What do you guys think? I think it’s a good move, I hope they can bring some improvements to the web kit, for example smoothness (yes fonts/borders with applied border radius, I am talking to you).

I’m in favor of this move. It makes sense to me and there is a lot more to a browser than just the rendering engine. I think the best argument for what Opera is saying can be demonstrated by how much I like Chrome over Safari. They’re both Webkit but I can not stand using Safari and love using Chrome.

Definitely a good step. I always have loved Opera for it’s possibilities. Since version 12 it can nearly handle all fancy CSS3 techniques and with the move to webkit web standards are even more supported.

All we need now is the get rid of the vendor prefixes and IE

Back in the days, Opera was the only browser supporting web standards completely. If you wanted to be sure that everything is working properly, open a page in opera and then other browsers (IE, FFox, etc)

They realized that their work to create better standards was doing much better in the most popular engine. Good news for the web!

Excellent news. Now why can’t Microsoft do the same, after years of developing the atrocity that is IE!
