Hi guys,

have you seen that news? http://wpcandy.com/reports/wordpress-dot-com-intros-paid-themes

WordPress.com host currently nearly 17 million blogs, so it’s huuuuuge market. They will probably start their own marketplace, currently WooThemes and The Theme Foundry only, but it would be amazing if we at ThemeForest could also take a piece of that pie :) I hope that Envato as a big player on that market will have a chance.

Big news for me, this would be great year for theme developers, I’m sure!

I think the’re not “paid”, i think WordPress.com bought extended licenses for those 2 themes and they’re free for use.

not really, you have to pay for them, if you’re logged to wp.com there button “Purchase & Activate” and price 68$ for Shelf and 45$ for Headline. They are planning to do something like marketplace for that on wordpress.com.

Their standards would be probably so high that they’ll have whole army of Kailoon’s clones to check themes :D

The stricter, the better, because they are going to be bombarded with shit-quality stuff 24/7.

They’ll really need to maintain a very strict acceptance criteria that should filter out all intermediates and noobs. IF they want it to be an uber-high quality marketplace, that is.

Wow! This could be huge. Can’t wait to see what TF does with this.

I am excited for this as it would be more geared toward making regular blog layouts instead of the same old corporate/business stuff.

4. We’re only opening the marketplace up to partners whose themes they sell to self-hosted WordPress users are 100% GPL , including images and Javascript.
