Question on the extended license items. We’d like to buy multiple images with extended licenses from Photodune and include them in our XML file, which users will import after buying our theme.
So we buy an extended license of an image, then the user buys our theme and imports the XML file to get all of our demo data, and the image with the extended license is included in that data.
Is this allowed? A bIt confused on the licensing terms and want to triple check before we do so.
According to the post at the end of this thread, it seems to be allowed. Last post by Jordan-M … http://themeforest.net/forums/thread/places-to-get-photos-from-for-use-in-templates/5874?page=9
I think that’s correct but you would also need written permission from who owns the images.
This is how I understand it anyway.
I requested a staff reply for you, but it should be like that – if you have an authors permission to use the images, then you even don’t have to buy them, but it would be a nice gesture and also maybe promote them on your item page.
All the best, Kris
That particular forum post from Jord is over 2 years old and it was before the latest round of license changes went in
This is from the PhotoDune Extended License page:
You can’t re-distribute the Item as stock, or in a tool or template. You can’t do this with an Item either on its own or bundled with other items, and even if you modify the Item. You can’t re-distribute or make available the Item as-is or with superficial modifications.
You would need the permission of the author for an item to be used inside a larger stock project.
