I’ve tried quite some PNG hacks for IE6 but for some reason I can’t get them to work. Could this be because of the fact that I am running MultipleIE (http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE) on my Windows test machine?
Most of the time I’m just serving up equivalent GIF -files for IE6 now.
@GeertDD , It’s amazing to me that you brought this up today. I came to this thread earlier today looking for advice on testing browsers. I installed Multiple IE this morning but I got an error when trying to run IE6 . Reading through the recent documentation I believe the problem might be due to a recent Windows update. (?)
I uninstalled the program and tried Jeffrey’s preference for DD_BelatedPNG fix and so far it’s working beautifully.
Yep, most png transparency hacks don’t work on localhost & IE testers. You need to upload it somewhere and the use Browsershots for testing.
eep, I should have added that I am using IETester and through that I was able to test DD_BelatedPNG fix on IE6 just fine.
Also check out a theory I blogged about recently. Using PNG -8’s for transparency instead of PNG -24s….

one important thing is that you can’t make PNG transparency work on IE6 when it comes to background images. only work with hack.

Actually you can. You can use a PNG 8 exported via Adobe Fireworks and it should work ok for IE6 . Additionally, you could just use a conditional comment and swap a GIF or JEPG (or PNG 8 if you wanted) for IE6 onlyI’ve tried quite some PNG hacks for IE6 but for some reason I can’t get them to work.one important thing is that you can’t make PNG transparency work on IE6 when it comes to background images. only

i was refering to PNG 24 . PNG 8 is no better (quality of image) than GIF and also you can’t have semi-transparent image with PNG 8
no edit button for older posts (?) so let me correct myself: “only images work with hack”

I’m most happy with the DD_BelatedPNG fix right now.
Ah Jeffrey you beat me to it. I didn’t remember seeing it in the screencast. The DD_belatedPNG fix works great!
