Post your favorite photoshop tips, tricks?

I just started following a tutorial on nettuts

step four said to create a rectangle about 80 pixels in height and it got me thinking. How do I know when it is 80 pixels. I know there is a ruler and I have them showing but I find it hard to tell if I am 80 or 90 or whatever. Then of course you can set the rectangle tool to be a specific height. Then I thought, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if when you are drawing your box with the rectangle tool, it told you how big it is as you were drawing it?”

This lead to to thinking if there was a setting somewhere in photoshop that would actually allow this to happen? Do you guys have any other tips or tricks for photoshop? A real good time saver?

its easier to just go upto “file”..”new”...set to 80w 80h and done. That can be dragged into another open project or left alone and saved eitherway. There probably is a way to do it the way you mentioned, I dont know the settings for that.

if you choose the selection tool you can set a fixed size in the top bar. set it to 80px x 80px and a click in your new document will create a selection of exactly 80×80px.

CS6 does just that.
