Is it correct that I can create a 590×300 swf preview and link it to my own personal site for the full screen preview, whether it’s for PHP purposes or not? I’ve seen several instances where people are pointing to their own server.

In items, only links to the domain http://www.flashden.net are permitted. For example linking to your portfolio in FlashDen is permitted, but linking to any other external website, even if it is your own, is not permitted.

An exception to this is if the link is necessary to the understanding or use of the Item.

PHP based flash items don’t work on the FD servers, so items that are principally PHP based are often seen with a 590 preview.swf link to a functional and encrypted version, yes. It qualifies as an exception, Otherwise the rules are upheld.

That’s the way it’s been for a while, I guess the devs and/or Lance might comment further if need be.

If it needs it to demonstrate core functionality (eg an XML Editor) ... but I have noticed that templates containing contact forms, for example, are still hosted on Flashden. In that case even if php worked functionality could not be demonstrated because the person testing it would not receive the contact form message. I think one of the reasons self-hosting of previews is not allowed is because authors could then modify previews without going through the review process, so I wouldn’t be surprised if attempts to game the system by putting an insubstantial bit of php in a file to justify self-hosting may result in a rejection.

@theflyingtinman – yes, but it still happens… people are linking to their own servers/hosting… If people were to abuse it, they wouldn’t last long. But, that’s not my question, however, if people are doing it (for practical purposes) then it must be tolerable by FlashDen. So, my first post in this thread pretty much answers my own question.

What about externally hosted Documentation PDF ’s… for the purposes of illustrating usage of a file or API before purchase?
