The biggest adventage of Envato was one of the lowest costs – it was compensated with more buys. But now you have partially lost it. The customers will buy less and search for cheaper alternatives… it was not a good idea.
Some time ago we had drastic price increase on videohive (from $3-$5) and I didn’t notice any earnings decrease, on contrary, my earnings have increased significantly.

yes, but we also had some buyers complaining about it. I wouldn’t be happy, too, so I think it’s quite normal that they complain in a thread like this. But we know, in the end this is still the cheapest marketplace (with that quality)

Hi! I agree with mateuszstaniszew: The customers will buy less and search for cheaper alternatives ... There are other alternatives and other competitors… Which is really bad is that they didn’t announce the prices are raising in advance. Regards – nuno

since civilization will not collapse from 1-3$ increase in prices as ToivoMedia trivialized it, same way it will not make authors push more quality content and we all know it. Especially when we take in consideration authors get half of the price increase.

Before I get called out as a greedy buyer or something much worse I have to say I’m content creator myself and I do have respect for a lot of Envato authors. Also the fact I did spend a lot of money doing business with a lot of you. As much as some like to imagine all their work is being used in 1000$+ projects, this is not the case most of the time, and the content is used in smaller projects without big budgets.

My problem is not the current increase of the price, but several other things such as: - the trend and expectation of the constant increase this change will create - the attitude of some Authors towards Buyer concerns. We are also people, not just numbers and ratios and without us you would not be conducting business here and vice versa. Change impacts our work and not only yours. Imagine the outcry if the prices dropped 1-3$. - the fact this is received as “quality boosting update” when it’s so small 95% of the Authors will barely see the increase in generated revenue. Again, especially when Authors get/earn 50% of the price change when Buyers have to give/pay 100% of it. Which basically gives me double rights to call this out then you to defend it :D - and the biggest thing of all, someone already mentioned it … the quality control or lack of one ! A lot of items are dropped in the same price range when the difference in quality is drastic. It’s easy to defend the price when you are elite member, you push high end content and make a lot of sales. But most of, unfortunately, are not and while you get smaller % of the sales for it, Buyers have to pay the same price.

For this I recommend better content review and control. Also price decrease of the less quality work and support. Just 1-3$ price change reflected on end price (instead % of the envato Author tiers), shouldn’t be a big deal as many Authors said in this topic.

Envato marketplaces are popular as they are because of the good value/price ratio, changing this will surely have an impact.

Instead of increasing all of the items by category, IMHO as a Buyer, review and sort content by quality and reflect it in end price !

If I stepped on someones toes, it wasn’t my attention, but try to look at the topic from small entrepreneur Buyer perspective, who basically built your current business with their own.

I can totally understand your point of view and trust me, almost all of the well doing authors here are very much respecting their customers.

But maybe look at it this way: if you had bought an item a year ago for $30 you would get much less value than if you would buy a new file that is priced $30 yesterday (or $32).

To get the same quality a year ago, you would have to spend 35 or 40 dollar. You could look at it like – when compared to a year ago – you now get something for 3 dollar less, and not $2 more.

Quality is increasing very fast here, while prices stay still. At least on videohive, but I suspect it’s the same for other marketplaces. Now prices did adjust a little bit. Of course, it is kind of a pain when you compare it to 2 days ago before this price increase. But look at it in a bigger time frame and you see, the price-value ratio is in fact better than some years ago.

Nothing trivial about the threat of the collapse of civilization. Every day conflict rages all over the world forcing millions into migration, while free market capitalism continues to run rampant despite having brought the world economy to the brink of collapse a few years ago. Meanwhile, the huge problems of over population, climate change (causing more mass migration) and the threat of food shortages continue to escalate and add fuel to what could become a perfect storm, all in our life time.

A price rise of 1-3$ is fairly trivial.

I’m sure many authors would like to set deals and promotion on their items Many buyers would have great advantages. As you said top items will cost higher then average items. Just imagine a top WP theme with $150 – $200 and an average theme with $50 – $60 but at some point you can buy that top theme at $15 Deal price. It’s a win-win situations. You get a deal and the author get many sales and allot of exposure for further sales when the deal will expire. Unfortunately this isn’t possible here.

thank god this isn’t possible here with authors from all around the world with different currency exchange rates.
