Great news! I’m just off of my best month of all times on AJ, and am a little sad because I can’t help but think August is going to suffer by comparison. You’re like a welcome old friend invading my pity party to share a pizza.
I’m also excited to finally get to 51%. It took forever. I’m hoping that the rise in prices doesn’t have a corresponding bump in the rate schedule levels. I’d love to bump up quicker.
Lots of neat new stuff going on there in Australia at Envato. Keep up the good work, folks.
Looks like there is no price increment in GraphicRiver > Add-ons section! I thought that section deserves increment for many years!
The fun fact is, the dead ActiveDen items got price increment of $1, $2 etc.
It’s easy to change and raise prices …. how about you raise THE QUALITY of the products also?
I understand there are so many different authors and different products, and it’s complicated to check out every single product but anyway …. talking about products I’m interested in which are WP themes and plugins … overall product quality is BAD … Authors claim and promote their products as the BEST products on the planet, but you have to purchase them to find out they are full of defects, bugs, issues, etc…. And some authors don’t do a thing to fix the issues.
In the past I purchased two themes, one HTML and one Flash, and than the authors simply disappeared from Envato and left all customers without support, without bug fixes, without updates, so I end up with two themes that are useless. A year later I accidentally discovered the author of the Flash theme I purchased, who disappeared …. was back on Envato under different user name.
I have also two WP themes purchased on ThemeForest that have so many defects and bugs that are practically useless, and author don’t care to fix that.
Now I need several new themes and some plugins to replace those defective and worthless themes, but honestly, I’m afraid to purchase things here anymore, and deal with more issues and more problems…. unfortunately I’m not rich, and I can’t afford just wasting $50-$60 on theme each time just to test and find out it’s not working properly and it’s useless.
And it’s not just about money paid for the product,... even worst than that is time lost trying to make the defective product work, waiting and begging for fixes, updates and so on, and all the frustration that comes with that … and the worst part of all this is: .... even if the product is bad, defective and useless, you have to give the author 5 star rating if you wish to receive any kind of “support” .... if you rate the product with 1 star … you are done …. most of authors will not even talk to you, and one author even banned me from the support forum, when I complained and gave him 1 star. That’s why so many themes have such a high rating that they don’t even deserve to have. Rating suppose to reflect real quality of the product, but it seems like it doesn’t work that way here.
If the author is not willing or not capable to provide working product, or is not willing or not capable to provide fixes and updates for defective product, it should not be even selling here. But it seems that … as long as Envato is getting it’s percentage from the sales, you don’t care much ….
I’ve had a whole bunch of WP themes and plugins saved in my collections and planned to purchase them but I’m tight with money, so now … with this new price increase, I will have to eliminate many of them and purchase just those that I need urgently.I’m disappointed with you guys!
I’m sorry you’ve had some poor experiences with some of the items you’ve purchased.
The quality of items sold through our marketplaces is very important to us. We’re actively trying to improve standards and will be doing more work in this space in the future.
With regard to item support, we’re aware that this is an issue. It’s one of 8 key things we’re working on in 2014, as outlined in the Marketplaces Roadmap 2014:
Sustainable Item Support For ThemeForest and CodeCanyon in particular how buyers get post-sale support has been a big issue. Buyers have an inconsistent experience, authors have been rolling their own tools and themselves feeling unsupported, and there’s lots of confusion over who is supposed to do what. There’s plenty of problems to solve in this area, and we’re building a dedicated team to work on them.
So we’re planning to improve this area as well.
If you could submit a ticket with some more details about your experiences, we’d be happy to investigate and see whether there is anything we can do. Thanks.
Good point from Toivo Media. There needs to be a small, regular increase in prices for the prices to stay the same in real terms, otherwise inflation is constantly eroding the price (and the quality will follow). I mean, imagine if you could go out and buy a new car at 1970s prices!
The other good point is that there’s very little competition in the price and quality class to Envato. Certain of its marketplaces, really are the leaders in their field.
Authors are not greedy. For highly experienced authors, especially those living in expensive parts of the world like Western Europe or America, the return on this kind of work is very low compared to the freelance day rates they can easily attain. From this kind of author’s point of view, Envato is a high-risk and potentially low-return strategy.
Certainly buyers who purchase my work are getting it at a tiny, tiny fraction of the price that it would otherwise have cost them, and from a personal point of view, very few of my items have broken even to the extent that they cover the time input. I continue to produce when I have time, because I enjoy producing stuff for Envato and I enjoy the community, and because I like to have a hand in the game. If I were greedy, I’d have packed it in ages ago.
Over the years that it has existed, Envato is actually responsible for pushing down prices and price expectations across the board, so I don’t have much time for anyone complaining about “greedy authors” when faced with a price increase of a few %.
So I welcome this change, and I hope (and expect) that like the recent price increase on Videohive, it won’t unduly effect sales.

Off-topic for a moment. It would be a huge boost to my responsiveness on customer enquiries if I were able to set it up to send me an SMS/text message or instant message when a customer sends me an email via my profile page.
Also, many buyers leave a low star rating without ever having contacted me. Usually for issues that are easily solvable, a misunderstanding, or a lack of ability on the author’s own part. When a buyer gives a low star rating, a pop-up box with “Would you like to send a support request to the author” might not be a bad idea. I’m convinced many buyers are not aware that this is a possibility.

+1 – seems they care only about majority income (TF) and not the minority one (GR). As You said add-ons deserve a price increase while they have disabled extended licence on it.
