And then suddenly the mighty “top seller of all the time” goes out of the business.

I already stated that they would not, if there sales go down by lets say 60%, since there price is almost 3x higher they would still earn the same or maybe even more and they would have less support.

Indeed, it’s not about sales.. it’s about turnover.. sales are meaningless, it’s about how much is in your pocket at the end of the day – that’s what counts :)

If some themes get priced higher slightly, their sales will drop slightly, but they still make more on turnover.. but what happens is those missing sales go to other authors and they make more.. so everyone wins. Channelling too much exposure to the same files is counter productive.

could be wrong. with less sales, lower position in top sellers. less exposure. less sales. lower position. less exposure, less sales. lower position, etc.

Anyone asked the big guys if they think their items should be priced higher? I doubt it. even if you think his turnover will be the same. It is also the number of sales that drive more sales to that item. To say, “increase the price 3x, sales will be reduced for a factor of 3, turnover is the same”, is a very simplified thinking.

If avada would disappear from the popular list for one week, do you think it would get up to 1000 sales a week?

Well that’s how competition works. The buyers will decide which items get sales.

yes. and they did. and now you want to change the price of your competitors to change buyers decision and sales. Think about it

Creattive…. actually, this is how most of markets in the world work, laws actually do protect others and set certain protocols to ensure competitive market.

What do you think would happen if Apple decides to now sell iphone at some ridiculous price?

The point is that themeforest has whole in pricing model that allow manipulating, what we suggest works in benefit of all including envato, in the long run with this system people just will not work on it why because they will see what sales and they will know that to achieve this products they need to invest month and month of development and thousands of $ into plugins and add-ons and they will just say its not worth it and what will happen then? That number of items will one day slow down and even halt.

The choice will go away with that the customers. You all have to keep in mind as far as earnings point its all about authors and there process of work not item directly, these are not for example mobile apps so you can risk everything you have to invest in one product that can get millions or billions.

This market is from developers mostly for developers, people that resell there products. And fair price range is the only thing that will differentiate one item from another otherwise again why o why should i buy something that has little for the same price.

I think that envato is aware of all this they are just very reluctant and are waiting for the drop, status quo is good for them now. Guess business is still stable in there eyes its just shifting, for envato is the same if 10 items sell good or 500, we are being affected, but this will not go on forever it will get to saturation point but not on notion of uniqueness.

you are all talking like to you apply other rules than the ones you want to cut down on sales.

If Apple wants to sell their Iphones for a more reasonable price and without their huge percentage of pure winning, wouldn’t be so bad. But they don’t as they don’t want to lose their prestige-image, I guess.

All rules of pricing are the same for each author. Some people took the effort and implemented many plugins in their themes, and maybe got a better price-value ratio than less speced themes. Still, all these “flaws” in the system apply to everyone of you and you could have done the same theme like your competitors if you have invested more time and money in the development.

The better product with the better price gets the sale, that is how a market works. The only difference is, here we cannot set our own prices, but as long as nobody can, then we are all playing by the same rules.

You are talking here about other people’s items, who shall be increased in price or whatever. Nobody of you asked for his own items to be decreased in price to be more attractive for customers, as you see this as the only reason why your products are not so good selling as your competitors. What you do here is just not right in my eyes. Stop demanding from anyone else to cut down on other peoples success, work on your own success.

Everyone on the top list did start with 0 sales, everyone has to live by the same rules and pricing structures. If you think it is unfair that one kind of theme has a much better price-value ratio, then why don’t you go ahead and use this unfairness to your advantage. Maybe it’s not so easy, so it is actually more behind than just the price or whatever.

Maybe some things need change, but stop acting like childs and demanding other peoples items to be made less attractive so that your own items can shine more.
