One of our themes was featured. Now it’s off the homepage. Guys, I can assure you that homepage gives you MASSIVE sales increase.
A featured item now gets 1 month of home exposure which is an insane amount compared to 1-2 days of newly approved items. Why not having 1 feat per day instead, with seven spots each item would be granted 1 week BF

Many authors doesn’t realize the consequence of stock growth. There is a day in the future when the home page thumbnails will continuously move like conveyor belt. :D

yes that will happen eventually, I think then envato should disable the homepage thumbnails altogether and make buyers to go to the category they interested in and look for the files there.

Just fyi, from a very regular buyer’s perspective …

I have never bought a single item via the homepage, in fact I never even go to the homepage. I go straight to http://www.themeforest.net/category/all every single time I visit, so I can immediately view all the very latest themes available.

I’m VERY happy that loads of new themes are arriving every day and totally disagree with one person who commented that new themes should be held back/paused and released in a staggered manner. However, I’d also be VERY happy to see less of the inferior quality themes. I often see distinctly average themes getting approved – it’s a complete waste of my time browsing them; I’m looking for something I haven’t seen 100 times before on themeforest.

@webTypo – flagging forums posts is there to alert the staff of rude behavior and/or offensive language. i do not think i was offensive or rude :)

@Dream-Theme – but the app store has millions of sales for top products :) we do not have that. i personally agree with you, i dislike this new business model.

I also agree that a high level response is required here. Why quality bar so low? Also the new business model require more and more themes from veteran authors to keep up with newbies? So quantity over quality? If you cannot get exposure from one high end theme, just pump mediocre themes in there. Is that the business model? Not criticizing, just asking.

I am sorry, I thought the REPORT is for that, I totally agree with your post and was curious what Envato is thinking about it.

And we have a buyers point of view. Thanks for sharing!

:D No problems :) Just wanted to be sure that i was not offensive in any way. Did not intend to be :)

Also i wanted to say i remember the time, when themes rejected here would go to the green monster website. Now there are the same themes in here as there. It will catch up, the green monster, because it has lower prices. ( no name calling so it should be fine )

I’m just scared that someday when you upload your theme it won’t be even on the homepage, because with your item there will be 40 other released in the same time and I’m ready t believe in that, because one day I saw 29 items accepted in the same time… Yes, 29.

Envato forces us to produce more and more work to get the little exposure we can get.

Exposure now is hard to get .. they don’t give it on the homepage, they don’t give it in the search (Just search for something like “Church” and you will see what come up, everything but church themes).

So now exposure is something rare, something valuable .. and the only way to get it, is by uploading often and consistently.

And that’s what Envato want, that you upload often .. no matter what the heck you upload as long as it goes barely over the “acceptable” line.

But you blame on the wrong person. It’s not Envato’s fault, it’s not author’s fault.

Who’s left? :) Buyers.

I have great respect for them, they pay my bills and my food, it would be silly to bite the hand that feed you. But the problem is that they buy the same theme over and over again.

What I’m saying is that with 1 of the theme in the popular list, with simple CSS I can reproduce 95% of the other themes right there. And that would eliminate all of the problems of exposure.

Buyers need to take 1-2 month of their lives and learn basic CSS because these days, they buy a theme just for 1 feature they are looking for .. instead of doing it themselve.

And as long as they will continue to buy crap .. author will serve them crap, and Envato will accept crap.

It’s all in the hands of buyers.

I believe at some point they are going to have to stagger approvals, say like 10-15 themes a day (depending on category and submission volume), if they aren’t doing this already, to at least give everyone a fair amount of time on the home page.
