Exactly , this is just an initial shock, mostly how it goes, then people start searching for another similar web site that seals cheaper and then they figure out that support is bad, quality rubbish, design to be polite old and they come back.
Any idea why only some of my themes (older ones it seems) benefited from the $5 price increase?

...This being so, for me 45 or $ 50 is entirely too much. $ 35 dollars I was fine. Besides, if I have to wait several days or weeks to have support, $ 50 is certainly not justified.
The problem is that we (Envato and other stock marketplaces) has created a monster. I can’t imagine any case in my past (many years) as a web designer and developer that $50 was considered too much and not justified for what is being sold here.
I know is a “public” template what you are buying, but from my personal opinion even 4 times that amount could be a fair price for what you are getting, even if it’s for personal use and not reselling for third client. Support is not something to be considered as “full included” but also i’m sure almost all good authors here give good and reliable support within our files. Any bad independent experience should not be considered for this kind of global change, very important for us authors to motivate for future and existing works.

I’ve definitely seen a drop in the number of sales but I’m still at my average amount of daily earnings.
Yesterday (first day with price change) was slightly better than avg. Today a bit slow, but it’s normal to have daily fluctuations. I often have 2-3 days of sad sales and then things pick back up and the weekly avg ends up good. I will wait a full week or 2 before I start forming a better opinion.
That said, at my typical weekly sales the past few months, I figure I can sell about 2 LESS per day and still make the same profit. So the hope is to maintain the same sales… only time will tell.
I’m dead in the water over here. 5 sales yesterday, 1 today… I’ve averaged a solid 10 sales a day for the past few months.
As a buyer, I just noticed the price increase. I will continue to purchase themes here. However, I will be more careful in my selection, ask more pre-sales questions, and be less willing to try new developers who have not yet established a reputation. There are a lot of themes in my download area that were never used for various reasons.
I dont think you guys can really compare sales until you have 1-3 months of data, of course the initial weeks or so they may be down but you may still profit the same. everyones thats complaining about the increase will either A. go somewhere else with the same quality(not that there is any) B. get over it and end up buying themes in a week or so.
when many buyers use theses themes for “client” work they’re going to have to suck up the price hike or find somewhere else to get there stuff but again is there any with the same quality for the price? no most are actually more $$ 75-150 per theme..
For me i will start to buy on other maket place… 50$ its to much right now, just my opinion.
Im about to get real
—- - looking over all these discussion. I want everyone to READ THIS --
First i am a graphic designer with small web knowlege. I do websites and some I get from here. I have been buying product from ACTIVEDEN when it wasnt envato labled – and it was called flashden.
As an author – the beauty is you can create a unique site that you could sell to one client for 1700 to 15,000 – probably more depending on the client. But here you can sell that same 35 site 3000 times which you can do the math – and you dont need to offer full time support.
So really I design flyers – I make 65 for one because everyone is cheap as hell nowadays and if i charge 80 they will go somewhere cheaper or download jacked copy of photoshop or illustrator and do it themselves…and it looks horrible.
Now Im getting ready to upload my flyers to envato – and they are awesome because i do them for clubs in Miami, DC etc. I will make 50 times as much because i can sell bulk
HERE IS THE REAL PROBLEM – AND THIS IS A TOPIC OF ITS OWN – the visibility of envato is so huge, all you have to do is type in themes and envato pops up and say i charged 500 for a template and did not tell the client it was a template -which is what most people are doing, and these people are the reason this place survives. Heres the thing – now you will see the same site on ten dif locations – so now its not worth anything to the client – hes like” I just saw the site you charged me for 500 on themeforest for 35.00 -BIG PROBLEM -
How about this – its no secret what the buyers are doing – 90 percent are wannabe web designers or designers not feeling like designing, or they know enough to recode some stuff but not enough to do it their selves. So now that everyone in the free world sees envato stuff – it becomes less special for the buyer and more of a 35 dollar template. And i bet most of them have bought subscriptions to tutsplus to learn to design personally and forget the template sites.
My solution is to hide envato like a treasure and do away with the 700 themes that look the same and get more quality unique themes – then charge a subscription – there are already enough buyers on here to close it down publicly and it should be insider knowlege only ( a jewel) like a secret society for designers. I dont see many restaurant themes, music themes, club themes on here….I do see 5000 web agency sites. Now i do understand that we the designers could get our site on here – and its for personal business and not designers selling your theme to another client…but thats happening.
The price hike will affect your sales – but thats people – they want the best deal. Now if you made this site more exclusive – then im sure people would not mind paying 60 even 100 for a site. Kinda like a dj record pool – where they have to fill out a form to join and are accepted…I dont know just a thought.
But i do know this – nobody wants the same site as another person – or to even know there might be one out there – kinda like walking in a club and another guy has your shirt on.
I am for the price raise because if people are reselling they can just charge 15 dollars more – no big deal – but i believe the easy access and exposure to themeforest has lessened the real value – and lets be honest not many are going to pay the exclusive price….what if I bought an exclusive site – what happens??? do you call the people who previously bought the site last week and tell them they cant use it???? think about it. Sorry for all the typos its midnight and ive been designing all day – zombie
