but guys, there’s more:
talked to a close friend of mine today who is also a producer with a pretty big reputation and he said he knows several cases of agencies buying their music on AJ while charging their BIG clients BIG numbers and keeping the money themselves. In one recent case he said a client of his told him that he received a budget for the music only! of ,converted, $3300,- Dollars, bought a track on AJ and you can guess the rest. He could go on a nice holiday for the difference!
So keep that in mind next time you’re boasting about a big company using your music.
While I admit that such practice is hard to prevent and there obviously will always be black sheep who put ethics way behind a quick dollar, it is a) a matter of refining the licensing (which thank god is getting done step by step!) and b) also definitely a matter of reducing the huge price gap.

I’m sure we’d all flip a lid if we knew how often that happens….

Upload the license price of 14 dollars too, is a mistake, rather a suicide, the small buyers would disappear (increase 1 or 2 dollars max would be nice).
Don’t think so. Even if Envato increase price of $ 5 AJ will be one of the cheapest marketplace, but with high-quality music.
But with the new prices, we can reach the largest buyers, who are more valuable than several small ones.

I was assisting at a post host last year-working on a fairly major spot. I helped source music with the engineer and I found something here on AJ that worked and he could NOT BELIEVE how cheap it was. Literally shocked. This is a guy who spent years in Chicago’s once thriving advertising music scene as a engineer, back when composers actually had a budget to have an engineer to mix for them. So, basically, any amount of money not spent licensing music here went towards the hourly rate of the post host for the music search ($500/hr). The even more ridiculous part is the author AND audiojungle are not able to earn PRO money for the spot.

This is exactly why it is critical that the AJ licenses become stair-stepped so that the price of licensing music for a national TV commercial is significantly (very significantly) higher than the price for licensing a track for a YouTube cat video.

The royalty-free marketplace is maturing and these changes need to happen soon in order for this business model to better match the expectations of buyers and authors.

It’s a great idea, why is it so hard to implement this. The little youtube type guys don’t get hurt or scared off by higher pricing and the big companies that want to use stuff for TV broadcast type usage pay a higher price, which would still probably be a joke.

Add a TV Broadcast license, so simple.

That is shocking! It was always on the back of my mind that this could happen but it was a reality I had always chosen not to think about. I’d make excuses like “Oh this is just how I’m breaking into the music industry” and “Surely I’d hear my music on TV and I could go “aha, got him” but to be honest none of this has happened.

At the same time we all have to understand that there is always someone ready to replace us. Music tech is getting cheaper and cheaper and thanks to the internet people from all over the world can start contributing. Including people for whom these prices aren’t too bad for as the dollar earnings are good compared to their local pay. And think about it, in a “normal” situation their music wouldn’t be broadcast in the US or the UK but now it is possible and composers in the US and UK for whom selling their music at this price was previously unthinkable now have to deal with the reality that they too are beginning to get outsourced…

AND there’s also music students, amateur musicians, junior composers… there are lots of people willing to earn anything they can here and who can blame them? When I found out about this place I was amazed there was a place where I could just compose whatever I wanted (to an extent) and then publish it and get rewarded with money… that was unthinkable to me a few years ago…

Everyone should be happy with MORE licenses types varied by target use. These prices are really for tiny apps and youtube channels. It’s just wasting AJ authors power and everyone’s money.

Audio Jungle is the Target of stock music. They could get away with raising their prices slightly, but I would be more interested if that came with an even tougher screening process! High quality ‘designer’ music for cheap has its appeal, but there needs to be a balance. If prices are raised significantly, I hope the screening process becomes much more intense.

If prices were raised significantly, there might be greater diversification from authors, as the reward for producing items that have a lower sales ceiling would be increased. As a newer composer here, my initial items were mostly classical based, but the reward is too small to entice me to continue producing in that style, so my next batch will be targeted differently.
