Instead of using javascript to get pngs to work (causes severe browser lag for IE6 in a lot of cases), try resaving the .png in Adobe Fireworks… You can set it to an 8bit png WITH alpha transparencies. Doesn’t look amazing in IE6 , but at least you don’t get the blue/gray haze.

I don’t think you can use body as the selector as belated uses body as the parent so will ignore the DOM relationships with body. I would create a wrap inside the body for the gradient image.
