Hello, i´m newbie in the field of after effects. I recently buy and downloaded a video with a moved hand. Now i need the video without background “in the description there are alpha-channel “yes” – but i don´t know how i can take the background off the movie !

One more problem with the downloaded file. It´s .mov file and my after effects cs6 doesn´t accept it!

Thanks very much in advance for helpful anwers.

Regards, Martin

Do you have a link to the file that you bought?

One solution someone found was renaming the file to file_name.MP4 instead of .MOV—that may work.

A more detailed reason for the problem may be found here: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/1021622

Thanks for your help.

Yes i have a link: http://videohive.net/item/touch-screen-finger-gesture-single-click/239502

Touch Screen Finger – actually it has a black background but i don´t need it – i need a transparent background for my project.

I convert the file into mp4 and avi and i try to remove the background with “KEYLIGHT” – but it doesn´t work.

If you want i can send you the file ?

Regards, m.

It sounds like you were able to import the footage somehow, whether you converted it or not.

Instead of using keylight, change that layer’s blending mode to “add” to remove the black. “Screen” may work also, but your footage might look transparent.

Let me know if you have more issues!

you need to install quicktime on your computer, then After Effects will be able to import the mov file. It will detect the alpha channel (transparency) also.

Is your hand layer below or above your square layer?

If it is below, make sure to move the hand above the square (by above, I mean make the hand video layer on top of the square layer in the layers pane.)

Also, is the square transparent?

If the hand layer is above the square layer, make sure that the blending mode on the hand layer is set to “normal” so that it won’t be transparent. Opacity should be at 100% too.

Oh dear,

now i have a problem that when i try to import a .mov file into ae cs6 the program crashed.

With other pc it works but it´s not my pc.

I already installed the quicktime player and so on.

To import other formats like .avi it´t possible without troubles.

Can someone tell me where can be the problem ?
