Oh the irony.

When someone steals your work and provides a download link to it,it’s almost impossible to get that video taken down, not to mention the user account.

When you actually do authors a favor and promote them legit. You’re out in no time.

You can understand why they might do it. You can earn a lot of money via referral links just by sheer quantity. If you uploaded every video on Videohive to Youtube with a referral link, you’d make a buck or two. If every Videohive user uploaded every Videohive video to Youtube, Youtube would have a problem on its hands.

It still seems a bit harsh though… without a warning and everything.

Thanks for the info!

Everyone who uploads their previews to Vimeo is also in violation of Vimeo’s terms as well, referral links or not. The nature and content of the previews is to promote a product, so be prepared to hear from Vimeo if they decide you need you to pay $199 to upgrade to Pro.

Maybe that info is for another thread…

At least you can buy your way out of it on Vimeo. :-)

And what if you’re a Youtube partner? Wouldn’t you say that most partners’ content has a commercial end goal of promoting a product? I find the lines very grey with their terms… But I guess I will need to link to my personal site and then referral from there, to be safe.

Presumably, if you take the ?ref=felt_tips part off then all is fine? ‘Cos then it’s a link, but not a referral link.

I would say that presumption is correct
