Hi, sorry for asking it here but it is just that many of you own a mac, and I didn’t fully realized what an iMac is.. I own a MBP right now and I am thinking of buying an iMac too (or just the 27” LED display(

Anyway, According to Apple website, it’s just a big LED display, keyboard & a magic mouse.. But where is all the hardware?.. I mean, the processor, the ATM card.. Do you need to buy it separately? (Mac pro / mini mac)

Thanks :)

Hi Adam!

All the hardware it needs is inside the display, there’s no tower or such. So please don’t be surprised if you wanna “just buy the 27” LED display” :P
But I totally recommend buying it, I love mine!

Greetings,
GC

Okay I understood, so I can’t buy a 27” display and connect it with my MBP ? The display comes with all the hardware and so?

If so, what is the mac mini for..? Sorry for all of the question :D

Sure you can buy only a display, but then it’s not an iMac. iMac is just the word for that hardware containing display. Mac mini doesn’t have a display, its only the “tower”. So one could buy mac display + eg mac mini, or just an iMac. Sure there are noticeable differences in efficiency, costs and such.

Hi Adam, if I were you, I will only consider a second display or upgrade the MBP . I bought this iMac since March this year. My experience/impression, so far so good. Ya, so far so good for a very pricy machine. I think we expect ‘awesome’ from a price like that, right?

I got you, but a second display is 1000$.. This price I think is ridiculous.. 1000$ for a display?

I can use non Apple display also, right? And how much does it cost to upgrade my MBP ? Thanks Kailoon! :)

Adam, iMacs are the “Affordable” mac desktops for the average person. They are small and compact and there’s no traditional “tower” that comes with it. It’s all in what you see there. If you’re looking for an actual powerful mac and you have the money, you want to look at the Mac Pros. And a word of advice, if you get a mac pro, don’t buy one of the Apple displays. Head down to best buy and get two dell monitors the same size as an apple display at cheaper the cost. When I bought my mac pro, they were asking $900 for a single monitor. So, instead I bought two dell monitors for $300 each.
