Hey, I am about to upgrade my MBP mid-2009 to 4GB RAM (from 2GB) and looking for your suggestions.

1. What brand should I get?

2. From what store should I get it? (Cheap International shipping – 20$ max)

3. Will Lion run smoothly on 4GB mid-2009 MBP ?

Thanks!

Kingston Valueram 4gb should be fine. But I think you should go with 8GB. Memory is quite cheap these days.

Yeah, there’s really not all that much price difference between 4GB and 8GB these days, and you’ll have to take your Macbook apart either way ;)

My notebook has 6GB and it is already in the limit of usage. So I’ll probably double the RAM .

Get 8GB. You’ll love it and will never have to worry about it again no matter how crazy you get with apps. I suggest OWC if you’re not experienced with this sort of thing because you know for sure you’ll get RAM that will be compatible and it will be a brand name like Samsung (that’s what I got… not the Hynix shit that came with the MBP ).

I heard that Kingston ValueRam might not work with MBP and it’s not that good, so I suppose I won’t take it :)

About OWC , do they do international shipping?

Okay I think I’ll take this one:

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566DDR3S8GP/

International Mail Service, does it include tracking number? And how long does it take to arrive?

BTW , do you think it is wise to buy a SSD ? Or I don’t need it for Coda/Espresso & Photoshop uses?

Just make sure it is compatible with your specific MacBook Pro model. Not sure if there is a tracking number. Was relatively quick to the United States… a couple days maybe.

SSD is computing in the future. Just like going from PC to Mac, once you go SSD , you will never go back. You will become accustomed to the blazing fast speed. I highly recommend it. I upgraded to both 8GB of RAM and the fastest 120GB SSD at the time (only one that used the MacBook Pro’s 6Gbps interface) and it was worth every penny. I feel like I won’t have to upgrade to a new MBP for at least another 2-3 years.

Thank you very much, I have some questions about SSD :

1. If I want a double installation (SSD & HDD ), means I won’t have a burner?

2. How do I move all my apps and os to there?

3. Which one should I get?
