Can I just remind all the Muslims that simply abstaining from food and drink is not a true fast. As Prophet, peace be upon him, stated that the true reality of fasting is abstaining from useless and vain talking and interactions: To leave behind shameless actions, speech, and thought. Useless actions are those that have neither benefit in this temporal world, nor in the hereafter.

So simply not eating and drinking is like a uniform. Imagine a police officer or a construction worker, one’s you put on the uniform it doesn’t end there, now you have to go and work.

Thanks for the advice Joost, we sure will. :) Btw, you do know that at sunset we break the fast and drink water, juice, or whatever liquid and eat food?

Thanks for this it make me laugh a bit. Someone was told to fast the month of ramadan he thought he won’t eat and drink for 30 days non stop.
People, after the sunset we eat/drink all you can eat and drink no worries and fasting from sunrise to sunset won’t damage anything in our body but instead fasting has more benefits than one can think of. Fasting the whole month is not only abstaining from eating/drinking but abstaining from other things as well like Vaynah said.

i want waterrrrrrr :crying:
... Think about kidney stones and the damage it can do to all internal organs. ...
You make an excellent point. Don’t underestimate the damage that water deprivation can do to you, guys. Practise religion responsibly ;)

Fasting has many medical benefits, these page have some info and there’s something about water too:

Those articles, and pretty much any other positive article about fasting, are about the fact that fasting is healthy because you burn fat, which essentially results in you losing weight. If you go to a doctor, he’ll never tell you to fast (unless you eat way too much calories or unhealthy food), but instead tell you to exercise more to lose weight. Therefor fasting should never be seen as a positive thing towards a person’s health, but only as an alternative, easier, and less healthy solution.

Did you know that eating vegetables every day is much more healthy than fasting? I guess not, that’s why you’re fasting. You can never argue that fasting is healthy, as there are much less damaging alternative solutions. I understand that people fast because of their religion, but you shouldn’t say that you’re going it because it’s healthy, because that’s really not true.

Do you know that I eat vegetables every day? And do you know that just exercise is not recommended to lose weight and that there is much more to it? Do you know what fasting is? It does not stop you from eating every day…. I am not saying I fast because it has medical benefits, those are just side effects.

You talk about damaging effects but you’re not very specific… if you carefully go through those articles you’ll see there is much more mentioned than just burning fat.
